This position is a Skillbridge opportunity for transitioning military personnel looking for civilian opportunities to start a fulfilling career. We have locations in the following areas: Kirtland AFB, NM, Cannon AFB, NM, Birmingham, AL, Fort Rucker, AL, Hurlburt Field, FL and Eglin, FL. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Perform Aircraft Maintenance IAW instructions/drawings * Troubleshoot systems as required to meet customer needs * Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements. * Maintain a high state of cleanliness and utilize a clean-as-you-go process when executing maintenance duties. Perform rotating break room cleaning duties. * Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks. * Comply with processes and procedures as per DHS/Department of Defense (DOD) documents and publications. * Maintain control tools. Repair or replace defective parts then reassemble and install in aircraft. * Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. * Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. * Perform jacking and towing of aircraft. * Enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily. * Service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition. * Research the technical library and other applicable technical documentation (such as * manufacturers' and DHS/DOD maintenance manuals, service bulletins, engineering and technical data) to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. * Perform progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections. * Examine engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks. * Listen to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves. Inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, FOD, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments. * Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks. Tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction. * Perform full system checkouts and complete servicing on all aircraft systems. * Provide technical direction to Aircraft Mechanic Helpers and Aircraft Workers. * Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have direct reports. Your position will report to the Quality Lead and is a part of a multi team effort to support multiple customer requirements. What you'll do all day: Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. What you can expect as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star: Whether you are replacing or repairing parts, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems or performing inspections on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, no day is the same. You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including: * Performing general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems. * Removal and installation of panels and components, * Troubleshooting and problem solving aircraft system/component issues * De-fueling aircraft, * Engine removal/installations, * Operating ground support equipment, * Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components * Aircraft movement and assistance in performance runs/ taxiing * Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling * Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases * Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English * Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management. Your Education: A High school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory. Your Experience: AMT I: Airframe or Powerplant license is required. Airframe license is preferred. 0-2 years of experience in aviation maintenance, avionics, or similar. These technicians have limited to moderate knowledge of general maintenance aspects Technicians require close supervision of general maintenance tasks AMT II: Airframe or Powerplant license is required. Airframe license is preferred. 2-4 years of experience working in aviation maintenance Experience working on corporate aircraft is preferred but not essential. These technicians have considerable knowledge of the job and general maintenance aspects. Technicians require general supervision on routine maintenance and more detailed instruction for new or special assignments. AMT III: Airframe license is required; in addition, Powerplant license is highly preferred 4-6+ years' experience in aviation maintenance Experience working on corporate aircraft is highly preferred but not essential. These technicians have full knowledge of general, detailed, and special assignments in aircraft maintenance AMT IV (Master) Airframe and Powerplant license is required. 6+ years' experience in aviation maintenance Must have extensive experience on corporate aircraft platforms Subject matter expert in all areas of the job Your Initiative: We're looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. Your Sense of Responsibility: Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work. Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties. Maintain customer-oriented work habits. Other particulars: Physical Requirements Lifts 50 lbs. Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting. Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands. Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas Standing for long periods of time. Mental Requirements Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines. Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation. Work with others in a professional manner. Supervision Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity. Working Conditions Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot. Work outside during aircraft runs will occur. Varied positions in and around the aircraft. Equipment Used Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic. Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment. Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices. Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
