The selected candidate will work as the primary SystemAdministrator for the upkeep and maintenance of Linux and Windows servers supporting multiple CENTRIX enclaves hosted in the Pearl City facility. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently when needed, and have a good understanding of Ansible, Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS:

The Position:
This is a professional position in the classified service assigned to the City of Santa Clara's Electric Utility Department, Silicon Valley Power (SVP). This position works directly for SVP's Systems Support Group (SSG) which is the technology backbone of SVP. SSG is a growing division, we directly support a large range of technology projects and modernization efforts within SVP, including activities in support of the unprecedented load growth of the Utility.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Administrator to design, implement, and support both enterprise and utility-specific network infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Cisco technologies. The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the organization's overall network environment, including SVP's utility communication and control systems.
In this role, the Network Administrator is responsible for administering and monitoring network services, managing a variety of advanced network and security products-including Cisco firewalls and intrusion prevention systems- and maintaining compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements as well as applicable state and local mandates. This position involves supporting and maintaining complex infrastructure components such as enterprise-grade Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, such as HP Aruba switches, and RSA Authentication Manager, while also managing secure VPN access and routing protocols and future state zero trust network access initiatives.
The incumbent will oversee DNS infrastructure, support VoIP systems to ensure call quality and reliability, and proactively monitor network performance to detect and resolve issues related to
connectivity, latency, or system failures. The role also requires accurate documentation of network configurations and changes, collaboration with internal teams on infrastructure projects and upgrades, and participation in organizational capacity planning.

In lieu of the team lead requirement, the incumbent can have 6 years' experience relating to two (2) of the following IT arenas: Virtual desktop infrastructure, IT customer service, IT physical desktop support up to level 3, IT Service Desk ticketing systems, IT computing refreshes and the cycle thereof, IT endpoint support technologies, IT mobile devices, IT print, audio visual solutions, IT remote support technologies, IT change, IT cross-functional matrixed environments, or IT continual improvements. Experience providing IT client successes relating to two (2) of the following arenas within the endpoint computing platform: endpoint refresh/improvement, break/fix, technology deployment, meeting a business need, root cause analysis, cross-functional IT activity, new installations, or leveraging reports for improvement. Experience using an IT Service Desk ticketing system to include ticket management from cradle to grave, reporting, prompting the use of ticketing system, and the improvement of the ticketing system via the IT customer service lifecycle in partnership with other IT Teams. Experience with hardware and software inventory management to include warranties and working with other IT Teams and vendors in a matrixed environment. Experience working in and understanding a complex, matrixed IT environment with IT cross-functional awareness and how the IT platform supports the functional business needs. Experience with IT reporting in relation to performance, dashboards, and demonstrating client success. IT Fundamentals, A+, Service Desk, or IT support certifications preferred. This position will have to complete a general and Public Safety City of Chesapeake finger-print based background check. Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job class requires a minimum of six years of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . IT Fundamentals, A+ Service Desk or IT support certifications preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-terms department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
4-6 Years in an IT-related field 2-3 Years experience relating to IT inventory of software and hardware and lifecycle management. 2-3 years experience working in Public Sector IT environment.
