The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Anchorage International Airport, is looking for a Maintenance Specialist - Electrician - Journey 2/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing:
With minimal supervision, the candidate will professionally maintain the electrical systems associated with Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Duties encompass a wide range, including but not limited to, airfield lighting systems, exterior building lighting, street lighting, lift stations, pilot-controlled gates, and other electrical controls. The airport environment is dynamic, offering both excitement and challenges for electricians. The combination of advanced systems and constantly changing conditions demands a high level of skill.
Responsibilities also include the maintenance and repair of all electrical systems across the airfield and complex, regardless of weather conditions. Effective communication on both company and air-to-ground radios is essential. Additional tasks involve equipment cleaning and maintenance, fixture rebuilding, locates for construction projects, testing backup generators, and airfield lighting inspections.
As part of the AFM crew, the candidate will inspect and repair lighting systems in various conditions. This could entail replacing light fixtures during "whiteout" conditions on runways and taxiways during snow events, repairing fixtures by boat on the lake, or training for emergencies. These scenarios illustrate the diverse challenges faced daily, where routine maintenance keeps Alaska's infrastructure operational

STATE OF ALASKA ELECTRICIAN FITNESS CERTIFICATE REQUIRED
All applicants are required to have a State of Alaska Electrician Fitness Certificate with the State in order to be hired into the above position. A conditional hire approval can be given for those applicants who are licensed in a state who has entered into a reciprocal agreement with the State of Alaska.
COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

The Peer Specialist functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer specialists perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, learning, and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the peer specialist's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.
Duties include, but not limited to the following:
* Participates in the service, training, consultation, and other professional activities of VA health care services and functions as a fully vested member of the multidisciplinary team.
* Uses personal recovery experiences to model coping techniques and recovery tolls to coach Veterans to relevant skills need for self-management of their health condition(s) and pursuit of their personal wellness.
* Observes behaviors that might indicate difficulty adapting or responding to treatment (e.g., missed assessment appointments, failure to attend or maintain abstinence, risk to self or others, disruptive behavior), completes appropriate documentation, and reports concerns to the treatment team in a timely manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responds to service calls for various general repair work in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical according to work orders received.
Completes work orders, and documentation and paperwork required for record-keeping, and accuracy of billing.
Identifies and repairs light electrical, plumbing and carpentry work (including but not limited to; painting, drywall repair, install bathroom and kitchen faucets and fixtures).

OVERVIEW
Requisitions materials, receives and verifies invoices for payment; inventories equipment and supplies; completes required reports and records. May coordinate local contract awards for maintenance projects.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Non-exempt, non-supervisory, union position. Exercises limited supervision over crews; prioritizes schedules, assigns and monitors work of crews.
Examples of Duties
Perform and/or supervise tasks involving all types of maintenance, services, and repairs to buildings and equipment. Included are pest control, gas and oil heating systems, electrical, glazing, roofing, carpentry, cement/masonry, flooring, painting and other finishes.
Perform moderately heavy manual labor, in and out of doors, with required strength and agility and to work under adverse weather conditions, if necessary, such as heat, cold and around mechanical equipment, chemicals, tools and with soil.
Performs seasonal preventative maintenance work, such as furnace tune-up and repairs, to ensure facilities are kept in good repair. Performs skilled grounds work in the development and care of grounds, nursery, and/or greenhouse; cultivation and maintenance of trees, lawns and shrubs; and operation of grounds equipment.
Instructs tenants in the proper use of project furnished equipment and care of building and grounds.
Coordinates building inspections to assess normal maintenance and tenant-caused repair needs. Determines cause and damage to building, units and/or equipment and required repairs; advises Property Management if repair and labor costs will be charged to tenant. Inspects grounds and equipment on a periodic basis and during unit vacancies to identify and make recommendations to remedy deficient conditions.
Coordinates with Property Management to provide for timely turn-around for cleaning, repair and/or renovation of housing units. Performs emergency maintenance and repairs, at any hour, to prevent inconvenience and/or damage to facilities.
Performs home repairs to electrical and plumbing systems, doors, appliances, locks, and windows as required to meet safe, sanitary and decent housing conditions per federal regulations. Conduct routine inspections and perform preventative and annual maintenance and servicing of heating systems.
Winterize homes against severe weather conditions; remove snow and ice from walks and driveways; thaw and repair broken interior and exterior pipes.
Ensure the following custodial duties to prepare a unit for rental--walls, floors, windows, woodwork, fixtures, sinks, tubs, toilets and appliances must be cleaned and sanitized; trash is picked up and removed from unit and grounds; lawns mowed and walkways and driveways maintained in a safe, clean condition.
Repair holes and cracks in roads and drives as required.
Clean storeroom and shop area and secure from theft, order, receive, inventory and store routine supplies and equipment.
Prepare work orders, reports, timesheets, personnel actions, material/equipment requisitions and other inventory control methods using AHFC's current computer systems. May make estimates of labor, time, cost and materials, May assist in hiring employees and/or contractors.
Responds to after hour emergencies, which can include weekends and holidays.
May be assigned Master keys for location. Required to read and follow AHFC Key/Card Receipt form. Notify supervisor immediately of the loss of any key.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Methods, tools, practices and systems used in the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cement/masonry and painting trades.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions, standard practices, processes and materials involved in each trade relating to general building construction and maintenance and to grounds and equipment maintenance. Cultivation and maintenance of trees, lawns and ornamental shrubs and use of the equipment to perform such work.
Skills and Abilities: Use and care of tools and equipment employed in each trade relating to general building maintenance, grounds and equipment maintenance and office computers.
Abilities to: Work harmoniously with other maintenance employees, tenants, the public and property management staff.
Supervise work tasks performed by a small group of semi-skilled or unskilled workers and to provide surveillance of contractor work product. Make and work from sketches or plans for improvement or alteration of buildings or equipment and to fully implement all such work. Meet the public effectively and give information regarding ground and building facility policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, GED or equivalent and four years apprenticeship training or three years journeyman level experience in construction or maintenance of buildings, electrical, carpentry, plumbing or mechanical trades work; or any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Valid Boiler Operator Certificate Class 3 or be able to obtain within one (1) year of date of employment.
At least six months of data processing and Microsoft Office related computer experience.
Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour workday.
Provide valid Alaska driver's license and show proof of driving record in good standing from DMV when requested.

What you will be doing:
* Repair and maintain electronic traffic control equipment, signal systems, and highway illumination systems for public safety.
* Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on traffic control systems using diagnostic tools and hand tools, including controller modifications.
* Maintain and troubleshoot highway illumination systems, including lighting fixtures, wiring, and poles up to 150 feet tall.
* Service traffic signal lamps, lenses, signal compartments, pedestrian heads, and wiring components.
* Maintain school flasher systems, including controllers, timers, lamps, and wiring.
* Service emergency vehicle (OPTICOM) systems, including phase selectors, detectors, wiring, and intersection signaling.
* Troubleshoot and repair electronic/electrical equipment in the shop with diagnostic meters and testers.
* Collaborate with design and construction teams on traffic counting and vehicle detection equipment.
* Test and ensure proper functionality of new traffic signal controller cabinets and maintain airport lighting systems.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.
ELECTRICIANs LICENSE REQUIRED
All applicants are required to have an Electricians license with the State of Alaska in order to be hired into the above position. A conditional hire approval can be given for those applicants who are licensed in a state who has entered into a reciprocal agreement with the State of Alaska.
An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon successfully obtaining an Electricians license with the State of Alaska within 90 days, and may begin work only AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the license.
