About Cerro Coso Community College
Established in 1973 as a separate college within the Kern Community College District (KCCD), Cerro Coso Community College is one of three colleges in the District which also includes Bakersfield College in Bakersfield and Porterville College in Porterville.
Cerro Coso Community College provides educational services to a population of about 85,000 distributed over a service area of over 18,500 square miles - the largest community college service area in California. Such a large area requires multiple physical sites in order to provide quality learning. Cerro Coso Community College has met this requirement by offering instruction and services to an approximate FTES of 2,850 students at six campus locations and through distance education.
The 320 acre IWV Campus at Ridgecrest, California is located in the upper Mojave Desert, 160 miles northeast of Los Angeles and 120 east of the District Office in Bakersfield, and serves a population of about 28,000. This campus serves about half of the student population of the college and houses most of the college administration. The Eastern Sierra College Center is north of the IWV campus and serves the communities of Inyo and Mono counties. The center operates two campuses, one in Bishop 120 miles north of Ridgecrest, and another in Mammoth Lakes which is an additional forty miles north. Forty-five miles west of the IWV campus, the Kern River Valley campus serves communities near Lake Isabella. The East Kern campus is seventy miles south of the IWV campus and is housed on Edwards Air Force Base. The Hospital Laboratory Technicians performs or supervises the performance of a wide variety of technical procedures in a hospital laboratory and perform other related duties as required. The Hospital Laboratory Technician performs both pulmonary function tests on patients and assists in various bronchoscopy procedures. These tests are used to diagnose and manage disease in patients.
Pulmonary Function
The major portion of the duties of the Pulmonary Function Technician includes instructing and properly coaching patients to perform effort dependent breathing tests, independently and under minimal supervision. The Pulmonary Function Technician must learn all of the various measurements of lung function in order to generate reproducible and accurate results. An important factor required to perform the testing is the ability to fully understand the technical aspects of the equipment, as well as comprehend various hardware and software applications. Following a variety of detail-specific protocols is critical to the success of this position.
Bronchoscopy
The Bronchoscopy Service is an administrative unit in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division. It provides the equipment, supplies, and trained technical personnel to assist the Pulmonary Attending Physicians when they perform bronchoscopies. These procedures may be conducted as part of the clinical evaluation and/or treatment of patients seen on the Pulmonary Consult Service, Chest Clinic, or from the Pulmonary Outpatient Diagnostic Service. The service also provides training for medical residents and Pulmonary Fellows during their rotations in the ICU and Consult Service at ZSFGH. The candidate will also perform other related duties.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $37.74 - $47.11 (Hourly Rate).

Position Summary:
Responsible for performing and administering basic and advanced therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases to patients with respiratory disorders. May also perform pulmonary function testing. Participates and leads advanced patient education, and is actively involved in departmental quality program.

* Takes and follows verbal treatment orders from physicians in administering drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system of patients. Evaluates treatment program, results and takes appropriate action.

Certification/Skills:
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
* Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by Texas Medical Board (TMB) required
* Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

Physical Requirements:
* Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
