This is an inpatient position within Saint Francis/St Mary's hospitals Rehabilitation Services department.
The Staff Occupational Therapist (Occupational Therapist 2) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides

geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The Staff Occupational Therapist
with specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience may also work with infants, children and/or

Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed approved provider written referrals, the Staff Occupational
Therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of
physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations. Services include patient evaluations using
various physical, cognitive, visual/perceptual, psychosocial, and developmental tests and measurements,
establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and
implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Staff
Occupational Therapist demonstrates practice competence managing patients of varying clinical acuity and
complexity. The Staff Occupational Therapist may seek mentoring for novel clinical presentations or areas of
specialty practice for which the Staff Occupational Therapist is not experienced or certified.
The Staff Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient
care services, is organized in work habits, and demonstrates effective time management skills. While
performing job duties, the Staff Occupational Therapist may also supervise Occupational Therapy Students,
Occupational Therapy Doctoral Fellows, and Rehabilitation Aides. The Staff Occupational Therapist
participates in regular professional and clinical development activities, completing 40 hours or more per year.
As a member of the clinical care team, the Staff Occupational Therapist also participates in and may lead

Therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of
physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations. Services include patient evaluations using
various physical, cognitive, visual/perceptual, psychosocial, and developmental tests and measurements,
establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and
implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Staff
Occupational Therapist demonstrates practice competence managing patients of varying clinical acuity and
complexity. The Staff Occupational Therapist may seek mentoring for novel clinical presentations or areas of
specialty practice for which the Staff Occupational Therapist is not experienced or certified.
The Staff Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient
care services, is organized in work habits, and demonstrates effective time management skills. While
performing job duties, the Staff Occupational Therapist may also supervise Occupational Therapy Students,
Occupational Therapy Doctoral Fellows, and Rehabilitation Aides. The Staff Occupational Therapist
participates in regular professional and clinical development activities, completing 40 hours or more per year.
As a member of the clinical care team, the Staff Occupational Therapist also participates in and may lead
compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives in the department, local care setting, and
organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Takes and follows verbal treatment orders from physicians in administering drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system of patients. Evaluates treatment program, results and takes appropriate action.
2. Performs independently all the following: arterial blood punctures, spirometry and flow volume loop testing, lung volume testing by body plethysmography or He dilution, airways resistance measurements, single breath diffusion capacity, bronchoprovocation testing and administers bronchodilator medications.
3. Assists with any combination of the following tests and procedures: exercise testing, indirect calorimetry testing, and regional ventilation perfusion studies, and the technical function of video, fiberoptic, and laser procedures.
4. Troubleshoots, maintains, calibrates and performs quality control on equipment in the laboratories. Manually sets up and maintains respiratory care equipment. Manages compliance logs and manuals for equipment and oxygen tanks. Performs 6-minute walk test.
5. Manually administers care to include oxygen, aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, IPPB, Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV), airway care, aerosolized medication, percussion, postural drainage, pulse oximetry and visual monitoring of patients on continuous ventilation
6. Communicates effectively with professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical records and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.
7. Remain current in respiratory care through continuing education, participation in in-service training, and review of journals. Conducts inter and intradepartmental respiratory care in-services at least once a year to patients, staff, or to the community.
8. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; Performs procedures, Adhere to standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
9. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
* Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Medical Board (TMB) required
* Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred
Minimum Education:
Associate's degree in Respiratory Care or Respiratory Therapy; Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or Respiratory Therapy preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of clinical experience with RRT and an Associate's degree; OR
Three (3) years of clinical experience with RRT and a Bachelor's degree.
At least one year of listed experience in a Pulmonary Function Testing Lab may be required based on role.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
