    Job Summary: The Patient Care Tech (SSN)-FIT is a member of the organization-wide internal float-pool that serves multiple hospitals in the Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) system. SSN-FIT PCT employees do not have a home-base unit, but instead, function out of a home department and are scheduled and assigned according to the needs of the organization. Competently provides direct/indirect, age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care in the role of a telemetry technician, patient care assistant, and/or unit secretary in both pediatric and adult areas under the direct supervision of the RN. Must demonstrate flexibility and willingly accept changing assignments and job duties at the beginning and throughout the shift as requested. Seeks information/clarification of duties throughout shift when necessary. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Successful completion of a basic dysrhythmia and recognition course required. Completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assisting (MA) program, or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals required. Completion of Emergency Medical Technician program may be considered in lieu of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Minimum of six months Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, Telemetry Technician, Unit Secretary or related experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Basic knowledge of cardiac rhythms and medical terminology required. Knowledge of unlicensed assistive personnel scope of practice for healthcare required. Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred); use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Outlook, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; operate and troubleshoot patient care equipment required for the position; perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; accept direction; collaborate with RN to problem solve; perform duties with supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple patient assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch; exhibit professional behavior and dress at all times.
