Training will be provided on subjects including but not limited to operating the vehicle, passenger assistance, First Aid, CPR, wheelchair lift operations, etc. Summary of Duties: Will provide needed passengers with assistance on and off vehicles. The drivers will at all times be alert to passenger needs and operate the vehicle in a safe manner. Transportation will be provided to riders of all ages and to various destinations. Transit drivers may be required to provide necessary services as authorized by the PACE Interdisciplinary Team (IDT). Accurate recordkeeping is mandatory for this position. Significant public contact is required, and this position requires some independent decision-making and action. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Must have valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. 2. Transport riders/passengers to and from approved destinations. 3. When needed will assist riders boarding and unboarding. 4. Will use proper techniques in assisting passengers, including those in wheelchairs. 5. Will assure proper vehicle maintenance is provided, keep vehicle clean and in good operative condition. 6. Observe safe-driving practices including those outlined in Four County Transit's Safe Driving Policies. 7. Pick up and return participants according to a predetermined schedule developed by the PACE Transportation Supervisor. 8. Provide updates on participant problems or concerns to the PACE Transportation Coordinator. 9. Collect fees/contributions with proper reporting. 10. Report any unacceptable behavior or the use of profanity on the vehicle. 11. Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to riders or the agency. 12. Refrain from the use of the vehicle for any personal reason. 13. Maintain accurate transportation records as identified by the supervisor. 14. Complete and submit accurate reports in a timely manner. 15. Attend and participate in all required training. 17. Will demonstrate and maintain good work ethics. 18. Will adhere to all applicable agency policies and procedures. 19. Will perform other duties as assigned

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles such as diesel and electric motor coaches, cable cars, streetcars and light rail vehicles; transports passengers along a specific route and makes designated stops as required; accepts fares, issues transfers, gives general directional information; and performs related duties as required. Examples of Important and Essential Duties According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list. Conducts pre-operational inspection of the transit vehicle, in accordance with federal and state laws and departmental regulations, to ensure it is functioning properly. Inspects the passenger compartment of the vehicle to ensure it is free from hazards (such as spills, loose handrails and stanchions, defective seats, etc.) and that the video camera lenses are not obscured. Safely navigates the vehicle through traffic along assigned routes, under various environmental conditions, in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations. Operates the disability access lifts to assist people in wheelchairs onto the vehicle and properly secures their wheelchairs when they are on the vehicle. Collects fares from passengers and issues transfers; checks passenger transfers, fast passes, and electronic passes to ensure they are valid. Uses vehicle's intercom system to communicate instructions to passengers and to call out vehicle stops and transfer points. Responds to customers' questions regarding routes, directions, fares and transfers. Conducts a post-operational inspection of the outside of the vehicle to detect defects and body damage, broken windows, and graffiti. Contacts Central Control regarding various emergencies such as medical emergencies, vehicle malfunctions, vehicle evacuations etc. and/or circumstances that may affect service such as heavy traffic, road hazards, road obstructions etc. Completes accident, incident and/or miscellaneous reports to document unusual occurrences. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Nature of Work: Incumbents in this class may be required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; to work outdoors in all weather conditions; and to use computers. In addition, may require standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; performing different physical activities such as pulling poles, cranking switches in the subway, resetting retrievers to return disabled transit vehicles to service and assisting in the movement of disabled vehicles when possible. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 9163 Transit Operator is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time. Receipt by the SFMTA of a negative test result is required prior to the employee being placed on the payroll. A positive, adulterated, negative dilute or substituted test will result in a decision not to hire, and the applicant's name will be removed from the list of eligibles for Safety-Sensitive positions. As a transportation coordinator, the role has direct responsibility for coordinating operations related to a discrete program or set of services available through CORE, and as a Lead Reentry Coach may be tasked with providing some direct services and with the supervision of a limited number of Reentry Coaches or Peer Navigators as deemed necessary to achieve CORE's objectives. In Coordinating transportation services for CORE, the Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supporting the reentry population with transportation to and from certain reentry related activities, including driving the CORE operated shuttle, an 8 passenger van, and with assisting individuals in obtaining or maintaining their own personal transportation options. The transportation oordinator, with the assistance of their manager, will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the service quality level of CORE's transportation services. In the absence of their manager, this role may be assigned some level of responsibility for supporting the day-to-day activities at their assigned worksite. The Transportation Coordinator may be called upon to serve as a “problem solver” for clients or partners to improve access to and the effectiveness of reentry services available through CORE. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that either reports to a CORE Program Manager or Site Manager; evening and weekend work may be required. All Alameda County residents and formerly incarcerated individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership: Support manager with day-to-day operations at their assigned service site, including occasions that include the performance of some administrative activities such as the opening or closing of a CORE service site; staff assistance with providing direct services, especially transportation services, by ensuring their adherence to established service delivery policies and procedures as well as any necessary data collection processes.
