While also seeking to drive excellence in production, quality, process troubleshooting and operations excellence, and contribute to our success in the chemical manufacturing industry.
Position Scope
This is an in-office position that works out of the Gurnee, IL manufacturing site that reports directly to our Engineering Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is very much one of being a working supervisor. While supervising contracted personnel, both professional and hands-on, the individual is expected to maintain a sizable project load.
Direct or oversight responsibility for many of the capital projects undertaken at Vantage Oleochemicals. The normal flow of events in a project may include: completion of project design and developing a firm cost estimate, firm project design and a commitment on equipment, developing bid packages and going to contractors for bids on equipment and installation, coordinating and checking the actual construction, start-up and modifications of finished equipment and an Advice of Physical Completion for the project, and recommending routing maintenance, spare parts, listing necessary information and a financial closing (over or under estimate and why). May act as a Field Construction Manager or, in some cases, the Commissioning Manager.
In the area of technical assistance, the incumbent investigates problems of a production, maintenance or technical nature, such as equipment failure or a process bottleneck.
Problem Solving:
Study existing situations (equipment, processes, manufacturing procedures, etc.), considering possible improvements or modifications, and preparing reports complete with conclusions and recommendations as a result of studies.
Incumbent plans or assist in planning the approach to projects or segments of projects assigned by supervisor and for plant turnarounds.
When assigned complete responsibility for small projects, supervises and participates in all aspects of the projects from inception to start-up (designs, estimates, calculations, test runs, etc.) and resolves all problems encountered.
Works routinely with other department heads and managers to assist in formulation of Vantage Oleochemicals' capital plan and refines proposals for submittal.
Accountability:
While reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, there remains a strong dotted line to the site manager and his staff. Actions taken and plans developed must be formulated with an eye to the site manager being the real customer.
Responsible for assisting in the development of technical improvements in equipment, processes, manufacturing procedures, etc. Directly affects profits by assisting in trouble-shooting equipment and/or process malfunctions and thereby restoring the plant to maximum operating efficiency. Responsible for adherence to safety and health rules & regulations.
Financial Responsibility:
Plays a major role in executing the Capital budget of approximately $10 Million per annum. Annually supervises or participates in 10-12 small ($25,000 or less) construction projects from inception to start-up. Annually manages 1 or 2 major ($.5MM and up) projects, assuming total responsibility for cost, scope, and technical success.
Education & Experience:
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Experience:
Minimum 5 to 10 years of engineering experience.
Supervisory experience with small groups desirable.
Well-developed human relations and communications skills.
Experience in the chemical industry or other process plants, with related technologies is strongly preferred.

Pay
The estimated base pay range for this position is: $96k - $144k annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, qualifications, skills and geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive program.

ð¤ What You'll Do:
Serve as a trusted technical advisor by providing product support, expert recommendations, and solutions to both the Sanitary Sales and Dixon Sales teams.
Build and nurture strong relationships with distributors, OEMs, and end users through regular in-person visits (25-35% travel required).
Strategically plan daily, weekly, and monthly customer engagement activities based on business priorities and opportunities.
Promote and pitch target products to engineering firms and end users, identifying new applications and expanding market reach.
Deliver technical support from the inside sales perspective, including generating quotes, spec sheets, and responding to product inquiries.
Collaborate with the Engineered Products Department to develop procedures, training programs, and customer-facing literature.
Conduct technical training sessions and review customer specifications to ensure our solutions align with their performance and regulatory requirements.
Partner directly with engineering firms and end users to specify engineered products into their designs.
Travel with Sanitary Sales Product Specialists to demonstrate product capabilities and close complex sales opportunities.
Provide field troubleshooting and technical problem-solving to ensure customer satisfaction and successful product implementation.
ð¯ What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent.
3-5 years: Industrial or technical outside sales - would consider less experience for the right potential and fit.
Industrial/ Food and/or Beverage Processing/Sanitary industry experience preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to listen to and interpret customer needs and provide sales solutions.
Ability to learn quickly and the ability to train and transfer knowledge to our customers.
Ability to establish and build relationships with customers.
Excellent time management skills.
Self-starter, highly motivated.

Job Summary The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in developing and sustaining production processes, equipment, and workflows that ensure components, subassemblies, and final products are manufactured safely, consistently, and in compliance with specifications and regulations. This role has architectural and system-level responsibility for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), ensuring process traceability, conformance, and integration with Quality and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems. The Manufacturing Engineer will also lead cross-functional initiatives with Product Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Operations, and Production to drive product conformity, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Essential Duties & Responsibilities An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the following duties. Develop, implement, and train staff in safe, reliable, and ergonomic production processes, workflows, and equipment.
Create and maintain assembly and manufacturing instructions within the MES to enable post-production audit confirmation where required.
Design, implement, and sustain tooling and fixturing to ensure accurate, repeatable, and efficient production.
Oversee tooling, fixturing, and test equipment documentation, identification, calibration, and maintenance requirements.
Design production work cells using lean manufacturing principles (5S, poke yoke, visual factory, kanban) to create an efficient and intuitive environment.
Provide primary oversight of the MES, ensuring full alignment with QMS and PLM requirements.
Support calibration, preventative maintenance, and scalability planning for production systems and equipment.
Identify and resolve process constraints in collaboration with production and engineering teams.
Partner with operators and technicians to understand process concerns, prioritize improvements, and implement effective solutions.
Lead and support internal and external product/process audits.
Facilitate brainstorming and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure cohesive, effective manufacturing solutions.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Industrial, or related engineering field, OR 7+ years of equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects to successful outcomes.
Experience training and mentoring junior engineers and assembly technicians.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in 3D CAD.
Experience implementing and supporting MES systems.
Familiarity with FAA or other highly regulated manufacturing requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred:
Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM systems.
ERP experience (Infor CloudSuite Industrial or similar).
Experience with external machining, tooling, and automation vendors.
Knowledge of Epicor eFlex MES and/or MQTT Protocol.
Working Conditions Work will be performed in both office and aerospace production environments with PPE required as designated. This role requires mobility on the shop floor, including kneeling, squatting, and bending to evaluate processes and equipment. Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. from floor to bench height may be required.
