As part of our LEAN Manufacturing business strategy, the position is located within a work "cell" assembling a variety of components ranging in complexity throughout the day. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: * Must be able to understand written work instructions for a wide range of products to properly assemble the final product to the highest of quality standards and with zero scrap or rework. * Assemble and package components and products of varying size and complexity that includes cleaning, inspecting and testing of assembled components and assemblies. * Meets the expected assembly timelines that are outlined on the production orders * Ask questions when instructions are not understood or clear * Assists in inventory Cycle counting as needed and notify supervisor of low stock levels. * Performs any combination of the above duties from the functions above. Cross-train on various functions in order to provide flexibility and support across production operations. * Must maintain a safe and clean working environment through compliance with procedures, policies and regulations. Essential duties and responsibilities Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products Utilize hand held tools such as a hand held screw and drill gun Maintain inventory of product in work stations Perform quality work checks as well as measurements with a tape measure and ruler to insure the product meets quality standards Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures Cut plastics, metal and wood with a saw Drill holes, solder, file and package lamps Maintain a clean and safe work area Perform other tasks as necessary Qualification requirements Must be proficient in English. Must be able to follow directions Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such a way as to produce a new concept or idea High attention to detail and self-motivation skills Basic computer navigation/ utilization skills a plus High School Diploma or GED preferred Specific technical or vocational training or certification may be required; may be required to pass ruler test Physical demands and abilities Regularly lift 20-40 pounds; may have to lift up to 50 pounds. Regularly perform repetitive tasks Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
