The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Parent institutions Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine also are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report consistently ranking the hospital and medical school among the nation's elite.
The 24/7 Cancer Care Clinic features an outpatient treatment area for patients to come in for scheduled appointments to receive chemotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, central line and port care, phlebotomy, etc. The scheduled infusion space is staffed with staff nurses and patient care technicians. There are also Nurse Practitioners in the Cancer Care Clinic who see patients in a patient care room setting within the clinic for symptom management concerns. This allow Oncology patients from the Siteman Cancer Center to receive care for some urgent needs. These patients are managed by the Nurse Practitioners and cared for the the staff nurses and PCTs. Additionally, when patients need to be admitted to the hospital, the Cancer Care Clinic begins the care for some of these patients who meet specific criteria.

Responsibilities
Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Qualifications
Required:

Essential Functions
The position requires teaching 12 contact hours per semester for both mathematics majors and non-majors. These courses could be in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, and/or Introductory Computer Programming aligning to the candidate's areas of expertise and student interests. Most course offerings are in-person during the day. Candidates may have the flexibility to teach some evening classes or online classes. Course scheduling is done in conjunction with the college and department.
The position requires that office hours are maintained for student advising as mandated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for HSSU. Each credit hour requires 0.75 hours of Office Hours. Thus, a 12-credit academic load will require 9.0 hours of Office Hours.
The position will require attendance at the Faculty Institute Symposium each semester which provides essential training to navigate the HSSU academic and professional environment as well as attending other mandated meetings at the Departmental, College, and University levels. In addition, faculty members are expected to attend the convocation ceremonies in both December and May at the end of Fall and Spring semesters.
The position comes with additional administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, performing evaluations of adjunct instructors, mentoring and advising students, academic reporting, and service on Departmental and University Committees
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate must show strong evidence of likely success in teaching students of a diverse background in various mathematics courses including the Calculus sequence, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Discrete Mathematics, Modern Algebra, Differential Equations, and others.

The SFI must possess the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate law enforcement training concepts and issues to a diverse audience; and must possess the demonstrated ability to instruct in accordance with the principles of basic adult education; as well as platform and practical area instruction for law enforcement.

Required Experience: SFIs must have a minimum of 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in ALL of the following law enforcement disciplines: firearms; defensive tactics/measures; and use of force.
The SFI must be a current or former certified law enforcement official or civilian employee having completed a military; state; county or municipally certified firearms training program.
Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education; technical certifications or training; or work/military experience.

Working Conditions The work is typically performed at an indoor or outdoor gun range. Employees will be required to handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The Surgical Specialty Clinic consists of a total of 13 clinics - Ortho Spine, Ortho Trauma, Ortho Recon, Ortho Foot and Ankle, Ortho Hand, Plastic Hand, Plastic Recon, General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, ENT-Head and neck, ENT plastics, and Otology. The clinic runs 1/2 day to whole day clinics Monday thru Friday from 0800-1700. We are closed on weekends and major holidays. The staff consists of RNs, Clerical, and the Resident Physicians who rotate through our clinic for their outpatient educational experience. The clinic sees about 13,000 patients a year. We treat a range a medical problems from fractures, minor excisions, evaluations for surgery, etc.
