Job Description:
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is recruiting up to two (2) tenure-track faculty, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, as part of a major expansion of basic science, interdisciplinary, and translational research. We are seeking outstanding scientists who study highly-infectious pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and/or vaccine/therapeutic development and require biosafety level 3 (BSL3) and animal BSL3 (A-BSL3) containment for these studies. Ideal candidates will study highly-infectious pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Coxiella burnetii, Yersinia pestis, Rickettsia sp., influenza virus, EEEV, SARS, MERS, West Nile virus, Hantavirus, Chikungunya, etc. The University is undergoing an exciting phase of research infrastructure expansion, including a $7M federal investment to renovate and expand the existing BSL3/A-BSL3 into 6 biocontainment suites, with shared equipment spaces and biocontainment entry/exit showers, for Select Agent, biodefense, and/or emerging infectious disease research. Top candidates will expand and complement the existing strengths of the microbiology and immunology faculty. Candidates are expected to contribute to the training and teaching of professional, postgraduate, and graduate learners, as well as provide institutional service. Candidates will join a highly-collaborative, multidisciplinary research community, and will be provided with newly renovated laboratory space along with generous start-up funds and competitive compensation packages. The University and College have numerous Centers of Excellence and core facilities to support research efforts, including the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center, Flow Cytometry Core, Microbiome Consortium, Electron Microscopy Core, Histology Core, and other integrated core facilities.

Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to a diverse patient population within our Level IV maternal/Level III neonatal childbirth unit.
Participate in an inpatient hospitalist model while also engaging in outpatient teaching and care.
Primary responsibilities, representing approximately 90% of your effort will be to provide clinical services in your specialty of obstetrics and gynecology at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Occasionally provide backup support in GYN to the University of Toledo Medical Center

This is an academic position in which the faculty member is responsible for assessing, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of assigned courses, as well as the curriculum within the specific division. The faculty member is also responsible for service to the College and scholarship activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assumes responsibility for classroom/clinical/laboratory instruction of assigned courses.
Facilitates a learning and caring environment, which encourages critical thinking, investigation, self-direction, and respect for the uniqueness of each individual.
Evaluates student progress and maintains appropriate records.
Remains current with trends, issues and practices in the discipline.
Contributes to the evaluation of student academic achievement and other evaluative processes of the College.
Demonstrates knowledge of and implementation of the general education philosophy.
Serves on college committees as appointed or elected.
Actively involved in professional development and scholarly activities.
Participates in peer, self, and course review.
Upholds and promotes the Mercy Health Mission and Core Values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life and service.
Education:
Required Minimum Education:
Masters Degree -Nursing or related field
Preferred Education:
Post Graduate Degree (PH.D.)
Specialty/Major: PhD, or EdD in Nursing or Specialty Area, or DNP
EXPERIENCE:
Two-three years of teaching. Awareness of student -centered learning and assessment.
Demonstrated experience in clinical, laboratory or classroom setting in appropriate field.
Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated use of appropriate technology in the classroom. Flexibility to meet the needs of the specific division and students.
Teaching experience in a college or university preferred. Active and current membership in professional and community organizations. Evidence of or potential for scholarly achievement in appropriate field.
