We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the laboratory of Dr. Rexach.
Dr. Rexach's laboratory studies Alzheimer's and related dementias. Our research focuses on genetic mechanisms of disease as well as interventions with primary focus on neuroimmune mechanisms and resilience factors contributing to neurodegeneration. We conduct studies in iPSC-derived stem cell models that allow us to model disease and disease modifying factors. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising graduatestudents, post-doctoral fellows, and undergraduate studentresearchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation. This includes ability to work with the PI to develop and utilize a host of iPSC models if dementia, and work closely with senior faculty and the PI supervising teams of technicians and students to complete the multidisciplinary tasks involved in each study (iPSC culturing, quality controls, single cell sequencing, phenotyping, genetic and pharmacological manipulation, functional readouts including electrophysiology). Before starting this position, the postdoctoral scholar must have their PhD (or at least a successful dissertation defense) in a discipline related to behavioral science (e.g., organizational behavior, social psychology, sociology) and demonstrable skill in advancing behavioral research. Candidates may add further value with a commitment to the success and mentorship of undergraduate and graduatestudents from all backgrounds, with an enthusiasm for building ties across disciplines and across the university, and experience with running experimental design and studies.
