ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides programming support for machining parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled machine tools by writing programs of machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control database to regulate movement of machine along cutting path. 2. Selects proper cutting tools for each part, by taking into consideration such factors as speeds, types of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations to safely and economically produce a part to the manufacturing engineering specification or drawing. 3. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove taped or programmed instructions. Job Description Job Title: Machinist 2 Department: 1007 - Machining The Level 2 Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining machining equipment to produce high-quality parts that meet customer specifications. This role requires advanced competencies in shop math, inspection tools, machine maintenance, and a strong understanding of machining processes and safety protocols. Responsibilities Operate CNC and manual machining equipment to produce parts according to specifications. Perform routine maintenance on machines, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. Upload programs to control panels and verify settings Perform minor program adjustments for speed, feed, and cutting depth. Configure tooling and offsets accurately. Perform in-process inspections, measuring and validating part features against dimensional tolerances and specifications provided by customers. Ensure parts adhere to Engineering Specifications outlined in blueprints and document all dimensions. Ability to utilize precision tools like calipers for precise measurements. Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies. Maintain accurate records of production and quality assurance activities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and resolve issues promptly. Use a forklift for material handling within the shop.
