Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to support advanced machining operations for aerospace components. This role focuses on programming complex machining centers using Siemens NX CAM, with an emphasis on high-precision aerospace superalloys and other advanced materials. The position involves developing probing routines, macros, and optimized toolpaths to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and support new product introduction (NPI) and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities
* Develop, optimize, and implement NX CAM programs for lathes, mills, 5-axis mill-turn, and turn-mill machining centers.
* Create advanced probing routines and macros to drive efficiency and ensure error-proof machining.
* Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to generate accurate toolpaths and setups.
* Identify and validate tooling and fixturing strategies for complex aerospace components.
* Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and operations to troubleshoot issues, improve cycle times, and mitigate risks during NPI or production transitions.
* Manage multiple programming projects simultaneously, documenting changes and providing regular updates to internal leadership and customers.
* Maintain CNC programs to reflect design or process updates, ensuring production readiness and compliance with quality standards.
Core Qualifications
* 5+ years of CNC programming experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing.
* Proficiency with CAM software (ideally NX), including multi-axis programming, probing, and macro development.
* Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, fixture design, and process optimization.
* Hands-on experience with machining aerospace-grade materials including 4140, stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys (e.g., Hastelloy).
* Familiarity with CNC equipment such as mills, lathes, wire EDM, 5-axis, and turn-mill centers.
* Background in CAD software and GD&T applications.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a team-based environment.
* U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) required due to project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
* Advanced NX CAM programming skills with CAD experience.
* Knowledge of probing systems (Renishaw, Siemens).
* Familiarity with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, Okuma.
* Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and production launch readiness.
* Background in CMM operation and programming.
* Experience applying lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.

The Machinist is responsible for the setup, operation, programming (as applicable), and inspection of manual and CNC machining equipment to produce high-quality parts that meet customer and engineering specifications. Depending on experience level, this role may range from performing basic machining and inspection tasks to advanced programming, troubleshooting, process optimization, and mentoring of other machinists. All Machinists are expected to work safely, maintain quality standards, and contribute to efficient shop operations.
Responsibilities may vary based on skill level and experience
Operate manual and CNC machining equipment to produce parts according to blueprints, routers, and engineering specifications.
Load and unload parts into fixtures and ensure proper part handling and protection throughout the machining process.
Perform machine setups, tooling changes, and offset adjustments as required.
Upload, modify, or develop CNC programs, including adjustments to speeds, feeds, and cutting depths, as appropriate to experience level.
Conduct in-process and final inspections, measuring part features against dimensional tolerances using precision inspection tools.
Document inspection results, production data, and quality records accurately.
Perform deburring, edge breaking, and surface blending using appropriate tools and techniques.
Perform routine preventative maintenance, including monitoring coolant and lubricant levels and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance to resolve problems efficiently.
Use forklifts and material handling equipment safely to move materials within the shop.
Log time and job activity accurately using company tracking systems.
Follow all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and company policies; actively support a strong safety culture.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Mentor and assist less experienced machinists, as applicable.
Qualifications
Must be a US citizen.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of shop math, ranging from basic fractions and decimals to advanced trigonometry and GD&T, depending on level.
Knowledge of machining processes, metal properties, and material behavior.
Proficiency with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs (as applicable).
Knowledge of hand tools, mechanical assemblies, part holding, and deburring methods.
Ability to interact with computers and CNC controls at a level appropriate to experience.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Apprenticeship, vocational, or technical training preferred.
Experience operating manual, semi-automated, and/or CNC machining equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders).
Experience levels may range from entry-level machining exposure to advanced CNC programming, setup, troubleshooting, and leadership.
Prior mentoring or leadership experience is a plus for higher-level placements.

The Opportunity
Williams International has an exciting opportunity for three Machining Apprentices to join our team beginning April 2026.
Under supervision of the Manufacturing Team Leader/Mentor, the apprentice will complete a pre-apprenticeship program for a period of three months. The pre-apprentices program focuses on training in safety, basic blue-print reading, basic machining on conventional lathes and mills, measurements and parts verification.
After a successful pre-apprenticeship period, the apprentice will be registered with the Department of Labor under a CNC Machining apprenticeship program. The program will include on the job training as well as instructor led courses through our partner organization, Oakland Community College. The training will be focused on CNC lathes, CNC mills, and advanced machining.
The apprenticeship training period is for 2 years. After successful completion, the candidate will finish in an off-shift position as a permanent full-time employee.

Diagnose machining issues and make minor program/parameter adjustments (feeds/speeds, offsets) during runs.

Maintain machines and work area (basic preventive care, cleanliness, chip/coolant management).
Adapt between fast-turn prototype/R&D work and short-run production while maintaining quality and repeatability.

Requirements
Required qualifications
3+ years experience as a CNC machinist/operator and setup technician in a precision environment.
Must be proficient in G-Code and M-Code programming with the ability to troubleshoot, edit, prove out processes, perform first piece runs, and recommend changes to programs on multi-axis machine tools proficiently.
Experience with multi-axis machining (3+1 / 3+2); familiarity with complex toolpaths and 3D surfaces.
Experience with live-tooling lathes, mill-turns, or multi-task machines.
Working knowledge of machining a range of materials (e.g., aluminum alloys, stainless, alloy steels, and other engineering materials).
Solid understanding of tooling, tool life, cutters, and fixturing methods.
Intermediate ability to interpret and apply GD&T.
Able to take ownership of the setup and run process from start to finish; comfortable juggling multiple competing priorities.
U.S. Person status required due to access to export-controlled technical data.
Preferred qualifications
Experience with simultaneous 5-axis setup and operation.
Experience working with Okuma CNC machines and controllers.
Comfortable referencing a CAD model to verify dimensions/features (model-based measurement).
Experience with CMM inspection (e.g., PC-DMIS or similar).
Waterjet experience.
Additive manufacturing exposure (e.g., FDM/SLA) and/or post-processing familiarity.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
Restore components by operating manual lathes, Bridgeport's, Hurco and Okuma.
Measure and examine completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
Uses OEM prints and design sketches to ensure proper outcome of repair.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
May also fabricate or modify fixtures and maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal working, layout, lapping and cleaning procedures.
Become fully trained and fluent on all parts with all machines.
Follow AWT's FAA Quality System.
Repair customer parts with care, craftsmanship and quality in a timely manner to meet the production schedule.
Machine parts using required fixtures in accordance with the manufacturer's technical data and company procedures.
Work in other areas as needed.
Maintain a clean and safe work area and comply with all preventative maintenance schedules.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
