POSITION SUMMARY:
We are hiring a Language and Communication Instructional Assistant to be part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals who are expected to provide the highest caliber of instruction in individual and/or small class settings. In this role, you will assist Speech and Language Pathologists in providing group speech therapy lessons as well as instruct students in operation and use of communication equipment (i.e., speech generating device) required for their individual communication needs. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Utilize current speech and language methods and procedures to be followed in instructional academic settings.
Participate in quarterly training regarding the Visual Immersion System to enhance comprehension and expression.
Assist in teaching students in areas of (but not limited to): comprehension, reading, mathematics, receptive, expressive and social pragmatic language, activities of daily living, science and social studies. Assist in the behavior management of the students in the classroom.
Help to develop and implement lesson plans and curriculum that align with IEP and/or ISP goals and objectives while incorporating the visual immersion system.
Help to develop instructional materials including visual supports for instruction, expression, and organization. Help to plan and organize daily activities and routines to optimize treatment and students' learning.
Teach and role model pro-social, mediation, self-regulation, self-management, and self-advocacy skills.
Collect and record academic, speech and behavioral data to contribute to clinical records.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
Protect students from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment including the use of the Therapeutic Crisis Model of Intervention, utilizing physical restraints or seclusion as prescribed.
Develop a keen sense and understanding of each student and his/her behaviors in order to ascertain any medical or physiological changes that may occur.
Develop trusting and positive relationships with students and staff. Collaborate and communicate with interdisciplinary team members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in a related field (Psychology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Special Education, etc.) or related experience.
Experience working with children with autism preferred.
Passion for helping others and making an impact in the lives of students with autism
Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, behavior theory, and autism.
Ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established time frames

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are hiring a Life Skills Instructional Assistant to work directly with students in the school and community environments. This position is based in the school building, with community-based instruction occurring throughout the school week. The Life Skills Instructional Assistant is a dynamic position with daily responsibilities that range from educational aide in the classroom to job coach in the community. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Assist in teaching students in the areas of (but not limited to): activities of daily living, community and transportation safety, shopping and purchasing skills at community stores and restaurants, employability skills through unpaid job training at community job sites.
Provide assistance and instruction to students about appropriate skills and behaviors needed for the workplace and community settings.
Provide on-site training and guidance to students at community job sites.
Monitor quality of student work to ensure workplace expectations are met.
Maintain effective rapport with community job site partners.
Transport students to and from community locations in Agency vehicles.
Participate in quarterly trainings with the Monarch Transition Team to enhance student job training and community-based instruction.
Assist in the teaching and behavior management of students in the classroom.
Assist in the development and implementation of lesson plans and curriculum that align with student IEP and/or ISP goals and objectives.
Help to develop instructional materials including visual supports. Help to plan and organize daily activities to optimize student learning.
Collect data and complete student assessments including work task analyses.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in a related field (Psychology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Special Education, etc.) preferred. Minimum High School Diploma required.
Experience working with children with autism preferred.
Experience working as a job coach preferred.

Provides assistance to the assigned teacher(s) to focus on child development techniques, safety practices and principles while establishing a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Conducts and documents ongoing assessments of each child's growth and development through the use of observation, parental input, developmental screening, etc.
Maintains a clean, safe and emotionally supportive environment that is conducive to learning and is centered on the needs and abilities of the children.
Assist children in self-help skills such toileting, dressing, eating, tooth brushing, and any other areas involving health, safety, and hygiene.
Periodically conducts conferences with the teacher(s) and parents to discuss the child's development and to involve them in program planning. Assists in planning and providing training for parents in child development to reinforce learning activities in the home and identify the children with special needs.
Develops and sustains good personal relationships with a variety of individuals, children, parents, families, other staff members and agency services providers.
Engages in ongoing professional development and training to keep up with best practices and certification requirements, including education and care services for children with special needs; attends meetings as required and serves as a spokesperson and advocate for the Head Start programs.
Participates in team teaching, staff meetings, conferences, institutions of higher learning, etc. to enhance professional development.

Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Early Childhood Education; or posses a CDA; are enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associates degree, Bachelors degree, or CDA credential program within two years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; enforce the academy's student discipline code; collaborate in the implementation of initiatives such as school-wide behavior management systems.
Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs and goals of students; establish clear objectives for all lessons and units; ensure that lessons -- as planned, delivered, and assessed -- are aligned with state curriculum and school-wide curriculum standards.
Develop lesson plans and submit them for review and feedback as scheduled; work cooperatively with the academy's instructional coach to learn from feedback and improve the quality of instruction. Participate in ongoing analysis and

Collaborate with special education staff to implement, to the greatest extent possible, an inclusive approach to students with special needs. Collaborate with other staff, as necessary, to implement grant-funded programming to accelerate learning for students with a variety of needs including special education, at-risk, limited English proficient students and others, to bring them to grade level proficiency.
Maintain accurate and complete records as required; maintain the confidentiality of student records and student information. Complete any documentation necessary for the academy to be in compliance with regulatory requirements, such as time and effort reporting.
Communicate with parents and make provisions for being available outside normal hours; work with parents to encourage participation in their child's learning experiences; provide regular communication to parents regarding their children's performance.
Maintain professional competence via conferences, mentoring, involvement in professional organizations, continuing coursework, etc. Complete all coursework and other requirements necessary to maintain teaching credentials and "highly qualified" status, as required by the teacher's assignment.
