Full-time Description
BETA is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Engineer to join our team. This position will play a key role in performing highway design, developing contract plans and documents and mentoring junior staff. This position will also collaborate across our multiple service areas, assist with business development, project pursuits, and coordinate projects with our clients.
Responsibilities:
Perform engineering design, review, and preparation of contract documents
Provide technical oversight mentoring junior staff
Prepare and review contract documents and reports
Collaborate with design team members and provide technical support
Provide client service and assist with proposal pursuits
Preferred location is BETA's Norwood office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Required Experience/Skills :
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) License
5 to 10 years of related engineering experience in highway design, stormwater management, ADA compliance, and roadway construction practices
Proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation OpenRoads Designer
Experience with MUTCD, AASHTO, MassDOT design requirements
Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

BETA is seeking for an experienced Stormwater/Civil Project Engineer to support our Water and Wastewater Team. The position will interact with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals in the New England area and will provide leadership and client development specifically in water resources engineering, watershed planning, construction management, civil infrastructure design, and permitting. This team of professionals comes together to create innovated design solutions for our public-sector clients utilizing nature-based solutions to improve infrastructure, address water quality issues and mitigate for climate impacts such as flooding. Projects may include: stormwater control retrofits; green infrastructure; land and water resource development and planning; stream and streambank restoration; wetland and buffer restoration; hydraulic and hydrologic modeling; drainage and stormwater studies; and stormwater management permitting including MS4 compliance programs.
Responsibilities:
Manage projects and mentor staff engineers in MS4 program compliance projects for community clients as well as watershed planning efforts and design projects related to stormwater management
Assist with the technical execution of projects amongst a team of dedicated project managers
Identify engineering issues and develop solutions
Conduct and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
Assist in the preparation of engineering design and construction plans, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, and bid documents
Assist in stormwater management permitting
Assist in business development and proposal efforts
Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities

Strong computer skills including a solid foundation in MS Office applications.

Leadership and Direction

* Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
* Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.
Do the Work
* Design of complex electrical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
* Responsible for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
* Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
* Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
* Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
* Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
* Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
* Complete electrical calculations not limited to load studies, voltage drop, panel/transformer/feeder loading, generator sizing, illumination levels, etc.
* Design/layout of electrical system devices, distribution components, lighting, fire alarm and special systems applicable to the project type.
* Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
* Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
* Define and determine project specifications and budget construction cost estimating.
* Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
* If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
* Work within established project budgets.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.

Your Opportunity
As a Mechanical Engineer, your role in our professional consulting services team is to work independently on multidisciplinary projects of various complexity as a discipline leader, through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for leading the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems on municipal water treatment plants, pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, hydroelectric power plants, and private industrial water applications in different locations across North America. Every project has its own unique challenges, and you are considered a resource for solutions to those challenges.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for various projects from preliminary design through bid and construction phases.
- Develop basis of design reports (BODR) and technical memorandums for small-to- medium size projects, setting criteria for following design stages.
- Develop design documents including drawings, specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs (OPCC).
- Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and attend construction site visits for design compliance.
- Develop HVAC calculations including building cooling and heating load calculations, air distribution system sizing, and hydronic distribution system sizing.
- Develop Plumbing calculations including domestic water, sanitary waste, and storm water systems sizing.
- Apply design codes and standards based on the project needs.
- Coordinate design with other design disciplines throughout the life of a project.
- Assist with mentoring engineers in training (EIT) to develop and strengthen their skills and technical abilities.
- Travel to job sites in your state of residence and other states (5%)
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- In-depth understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals such as psychrometric chart, refrigeration cycle and heat transfer.
- Experience in designing HVAC and Plumbing systems. Fire Protection design is a plus.
- Strong familiarity with design codes and standards of practice.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project deliverables.
- Ability to lead one or more projects simultaneously.
- Experience with HVAC load calculation software - HAP or Trace.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in designing HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, chemical storage rooms, and hydroelectric power plants.

Your Opportunity
As a Mechanical Engineer, your role in our professional consulting services team is to work independently on multidisciplinary projects of various complexity as a discipline leader, through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for leading the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems on municipal water treatment plants, pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, hydroelectric power plants, and private industrial water applications in different locations across North America. Your Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for various projects from preliminary design through bid and construction phases.
* Develop basis of design reports (BODR) and technical memorandums for small-to- medium size projects, setting criteria for following design stages.
* Develop design documents including drawings, specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs (OPCC).
* Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and attend construction site visits for design compliance.
* Develop HVAC calculations including building cooling and heating load calculations, air distribution system sizing, and hydronic distribution system sizing.
* Develop Plumbing calculations including domestic water, sanitary waste, and storm water systems sizing.
* Apply design codes and standards based on the project needs.
* Coordinate design with other design disciplines throughout the life of a project.
* Assist with mentoring engineers in training (EIT) to develop and strengthen their skills and technical abilities.
* Travel to job sites in your state of residence and other states (5%)
Your Capabilities and Credentials
* In-depth understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals such as psychrometric chart, refrigeration cycle and heat transfer.
* Experience in designing HVAC and Plumbing systems. Fire Protection design is a plus.
* Strong familiarity with design codes and standards of practice.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong understanding of all phases of project deliverables.
* Ability to lead one or more projects simultaneously.
* Experience with HVAC load calculation software - HAP or Trace.
* Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
Preferred Qualifications

Your Key Responsibilities
Typical projects or design tasks may include the design of sanitary, storm, and watermain projects and overland flow / civil site plan design projects. Manages project technical tasks including completing design work, calculations, writing specifications and technical reports on a wide range of civil infrastructure projects generally involving sanitary & storm sewer and watermain design, pump stations, stormwater management/drainage plans.
Coordinates design and report deliverable packages for submission to clients and/or approval authorities.
Coordinate with the Project Manager and attend meetings with the client, team members and sub-consultants.
Understands and implements industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agencies standards and requirements.
Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.
Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
Prepare engineering documents and contract documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules.
Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated efficient task management and technical execution of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
Broad, general understanding of many relevant areas of municipal engineering and site development design with respect to materials as well as industry standards.
General understanding of various construction means and methods and their disturbance impacts on the project site.
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Proficient with of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Basic understanding of Bentley Microstation is a plus.
Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently within a team.
Must have good driving record, and valid driver's license.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
Education and Experience
Education: Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
Experience: Minimum of five+ years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

Your Opportunity
As a Mechanical Engineer, your role in our professional consulting services team is to work independently on multidisciplinary projects of various complexity as a discipline leader, through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for leading the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems on municipal water treatment plants, pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, hydroelectric power plants, and private industrial water applications in different locations across North America. Every project has its own unique challenges, and you are considered a resource for solutions to those challenges.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for various projects from preliminary design through bid and construction phases.
* Develop basis of design reports (BODR) and technical memorandums for small-to- medium size projects, setting criteria for following design stages.
* Develop design documents including drawings, specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs (OPCC).
* Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and attend construction site visits for design compliance.
* Develop HVAC calculations including building cooling and heating load calculations, air distribution system sizing, and hydronic distribution system sizing.
* Develop Plumbing calculations including domestic water, sanitary waste, and storm water systems sizing.
* Apply design codes and standards based on the project needs.
* Coordinate design with other design disciplines throughout the life of a project.
* Assist with mentoring engineers in training (EIT) to develop and strengthen their skills and technical abilities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
* In-depth understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals such as psychrometric chart, refrigeration cycle and heat transfer.

BETA Group, Inc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior bridge engineer ready to prove themself in a Structural Project Manager role. This individual will have the opportunity to lead and oversee bridge/culvert design projects from initiation through completion. The ideal candidate should have previous experience piloting bridge assignments for MassDOT, RIDOT, other state agencies, and municipalities. In addition, there will be opportunities to manage projects and design other structures for municipalities, to oversee the preparation of contract plans and documents, and mentor junior staff. BETA's project portfolio will offer a wide variety of opportunities to broaden your skillset and gain valuable experience.
Responsibilities:
Manage projects from development of scopes, budgets and schedules through to design and construction phase services on a variety of bridge rehabilitation and replacement and other projects
Work with staff to produce planning documents, advance detailed engineering designs, develop and review contract documents for construction
Produce high-quality designs and reports, responsible for ensuring proper quality control procedures on all projects
Supervise/coordinate/mentor junior staff; instruct them on technical procedures and review their work for accuracy
Coordinate with clients and drive assigned projects to completion
Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of projects
Manage multiple ongoing projects
Continue to broaden technical skills within the chosen discipline
Lead team, client and public meetings
Oversee, collaborate and communicate with multi-discipline subconsultants across internal disciplines/office locations to complete projects on time and on budget

Requirements
Required Experience/Skills:
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) License
13+ years of bridge engineering experience
Demonstrated strong background in structural/bridge engineering
MassDOT design experience
Project management experience
Knowledge and experience with the implementation of planning, design, bidding and construction oversight of bridge projects
Skilled in writing and ability to prepare formal reports
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Must be able to collect field data and measurements; and perform inspections for bridges and other structures
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on responsibility
Willing to work in a collaborative team environment
Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient in OpenBridge Designer, SAP2000, AASHTOWare BrR, Excel
Strong background in structural analysis
