Performs noninvasive examinations involving the application of high frequency ultrasonic waves. : Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: 1) Performs all testing procedures in the echocardiography, which include diagnostic m-mode, two-dimensional, spectral Doppler and color Doppler. 2) Performs diagnostic exercise/pharmacological stress echocardiograms. In doing so, produces accurate clinical information for used by the cardiologist for the diagnosis of cardiac medical disorders. 3) Responsible for responding to Code 99s as required. 4) Troubleshoots technical methods of echocardiography as necessary. 5) Ensures a safe testing environment in all daily operations. 6) Demonstrates ability to retrieve and send data utilizing the clinical and financial information systems. 7) Understands physician orders and appropriate documentation. 8) Ensures adequate documentation in the medical record, test report and in the department logbooks according to department policy and procedures. 9) Communicates, orally and in writing, effectively to promote teamwork and team problem solving efforts. 10) Adapts to and works effectively in a variety of situations and settings, for example, special precautions disabled and dialysis patients. 11) Provides appropriately explanation of prep for testing procedures, and demonstrates the ability to schedule all types of echo tests in both Burlington and Peabody. 12) Complies with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, the policies and procedures of Lahey Clinic and the standards of any relevant accrediting organizations; participates actively in and abides by the requirements and adheres to the standards of Lahey Clinic's compliance program. 13) Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. 14) Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies. 15) Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. 16) Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. 17) Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards. 18) Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. 19) Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education, and maintains own educational records in support of credentialing requirements. 20) Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Associate degree and/or graduate of an accredited echocardiography program or relevant clinical experience resulting in registry eligibility Licensure, Certification, Registration: Requires ARDMS/RDCS or CCI/RCS accreditation or accreditation eligible and current basic life support (BLS) certification. A 1 year grace period may be provided to candidates who have completed an accredited echocardiography program and provide documentation they took but do not pass the boards. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong organizational and both written and verbal communication skills. In depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, and the ability to apply that knowledge to gather relevant information for diagnostic evaluation. In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards. Experience: Requires a minimum of one year of experience in echocardiography. Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians and synthesizes information related to the patients' medical problems,Job Description:DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Performs M-mode, two dimensional, spectral and color Doppler, stress and TEE echocardiograms according to the established departmental protocol and modifies as needed by patient variability; queries each patient or reviews each order or on line medical record for pertinent history. Communicates with reading physicians regarding all echocardiogram findings. 2. Assists with determining priority for requested studies and revises schedule as needed to perform urgent outpatient and emergency inpatient studies; recognizes important and life threatening abnormalities on the echocardiogram and calls them to the immediate attention of the director or physicians. 3. Assists in patient billing by logging studies on computer with appropriate demographics, attending doctors, referral questions and billing codes. 4. Assists in training new echocardiography staff and in adapting new techniques to the protocol; instructs techniques of echocardiography performance, utilization and interpretation to new colleagues. 5. Generates studies in digital format with all protocol specified measurements, utilizing Mmode, two-dimensional and Doppler modes, submitting each study ready for physician analysis. 6. Monitors supply inventory and notifies supervisor to re-order; maintains equipment in clean, running order and notifies supervisor if equipment repair is warranted. 7. Stocks exam rooms with supplies and maintains supply room in accordance with hospital compliance requirements. 8. Resolves patient scheduling issues by working with appropriate providers and staff. Assists with scheduling patients if required. Assists department with emergency re-scheduling due to equipment down time or other events. 9. Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing the highest quality scans. 10. Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times. 11. Performs patient centered customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved. Communicates patient complaints professionally and directs them to a supervisor if unable to resolve. Ensures HIPAA compliance at all times and understands that all patient information is accessed on a need to know basis. Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations, private conversations and/or any inappropriate behavior. Handles telephone calls and requests for services both professionally and appropriately in accordance with hospital telephone etiquette requirements and AIDET standards. 12. Maintains current registrations, certifications, continuing education requirements and competencies appropriately and timely.
