Performs MRI screening and safety for all patients, IV insertions and contrast injections, patient preparation, explanation of exams, ensuring imaging and billing process is complete. Technologist hired at this level will have a proven record of superior level of understanding of MRI physics. This technologist will process exceptional problem skills and self-directed as related to MRI scanning and sequences. **Job Description:** **Essential Responsibilities:** 1. Prepares and positions patients for MRI of various parts of the body. Positioning includes setting up equipment (coils, monitoring devices, etc.) and patient in relation to each other to provide best demonstration of body part under study. Is able to lift and postion all coils. Screens patients and personnel for any ferrous metal implants or other objects on them. 2. Selects appropriate pulse sequences from monitoring console for scan procedures. Records all pulse sequences implemented for exam. Evaluates results of scanning procedure for quality of results and completeness. Recognizes problems and rectifies with respect to selection made of operation. 3. Sends images to PACS system, evaluates exam for completeness, and verifies exam in timely manner. Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities. 4. Responds to patient's physical and psychological needs. Explains all procedures in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety. Observes patient's conditions and reports any changes to nurse or physician. 5. Starts an intravenous line on patients requiring IV contrast for the MRI examination with consideration to patients' pain tolerance, anxieties and fears. Monitors patient for contrast reactions and reports any problems promptly to a radiologist, the code team, or both, as indicated. **Required Qualifications:** 1. Associate's degree in Allied Health required. Bachelor's degree in Allied Health preferred. 2. The ideal availability would be Friday/Saturday/Sunday **Job Description:** Review the MRI order and confirm the exam, indications and protocol are correct. Will obtain and document any relevant MRI safety information from patient, family, health care proxy and health care providers along with medical history. Confirm the patient's name, date of birth, medical record and MRI exam ordered for each patient. Command safe entry to the MRI unit for non-MRI personnel and is responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment. Screen patients for MRI safety and are responsible for patient positioning, coil and protocol selection. Performs proper venipuncture with sterile technique. Administers IV contrast agents. Maintains BLS/CPR certification. Documents all information involving the use of IV and oral contrast in Epic. Exercises independence, sound judgement, creativity and initiative while working in stressful or high-pressure situations. Will prepare and clean all necessary equipment as well as the scan room before and after each patient. Performs daily or weekly quality assurance and verifies the safe operation of the MRI unit and other peripheral equipment used by the technologist, including allergic reaction kit and Stroke Pager. Informs the supervisor or team leader of any equipment needing repairs or service. Operates MRI console and selects the appropriate patient, protocol as well as selection of designated body part(s). Utilizes various peripheral hardware and software to assist in completion of the MRI exam. Assess patient's condition during the exam and ensure ability of patient to continue with the exam 100% of the time. Properly evaluate images and recognizes anatomy and pathology and the potential need to alert the radiologist for additional imaging or urgent findings. Transfers images to PACS and CADSTREAM when exam is complete, confirm that all images are received, processed and that they include the proper patient demographics as well as accession number with 100% accuracy. Begin and end all MRI exams using Epic with 100% accuracy. Uses Epic to schedule, arrive, complete and send all patient and MRI exam information. Scans any relevant documents into Epic media manager. Works with supervisor, team leader, service coordinators and colleagues to ensure proper utilization of MRI scanners. Assists with front desk duties when needed due to staffing issues or concerns in order to provide continued patient centered care. Burn and deliver a CD for the patient when requested. Will be expected to train and instruct MRI technologists as well as students on MRI and other peripheral equipment. Rotates within department and offsite location by shifts as required and needed; cooperates with all personnel while promoting cohesion and professionalism within the department. Proficiency in cross sectional anatomy, the use of power injectors, venipuncture or in the absence of this skill the ability to be trained to a level of competency. Screen patients for MRI safety and are responsible for patient positioning, coil and protocol selection. Performs proper venipuncture with sterile technique. Administers IV contrast agents. Maintains BLS/CPR certification. Documents all information involving the use of IV and oral contrast in Epic. Begin and complete all MRI exams utilizing the RIS tracking system with 100% accuracy 100% of time. 7. Utilizes PACS modality work list with 100% accuracy; patient demographics, accession number. 8. BLS certified 9. Properly QC's MRI studies utilizing the PACS. 10. Properly evaluates images for diagnostic purposes; recognizing anatomy and pathology for need of an additional scan or contrast. 11. Follows all safety protocols relating to Magnet safety with 100% accuracy 100% of the time. 12. MRI Technologists are responsible for positioning patients correctly, ensuring safety protocols are followed, maintaining equipment, and providing high-quality images while delivering compassionate care. Key Responsibilities: Pre-Procedure Preparation: Review the patient's medical history, doctor's orders, and any previous imaging studies to ensure the appropriate MRI procedure is conducted. Explain the MRI procedure to the patient, addressing any questions or concerns to reduce anxiety. Ensure that all necessary documentation, including informed consent forms and patient information, is completed before the procedure. Verify patient identity and screening criteria to ensure safety, such as checking for implanted devices, allergies to contrast agents, or pregnancy. Prepare and position the MRI room by ensuring the machine and equipment are ready for the procedure. Conducting MRI Scans: Operate the MRI machine, adjusting settings (e.g., magnetic field, radiofrequency pulse) to obtain high-quality images as prescribed by the physician. Patient Safety and Comfort: Ensure patient safety during the MRI procedure, especially concerning the strong magnetic fields, by verifying that no ferrous or metal objects are present on the patient. Keep patients informed during the scan, providing reassurance and instructions as needed to ensure comfort. Monitor the patient's condition, including vital signs, during the scan to detect any potential issues or discomfort. Ensure proper patient positioning to avoid injuries or discomfort during the imaging process. Post-Procedure Care: Assist the patient off the MRI table after the procedure and ensure they are stable and comfortable. Provide post-procedure instructions, including the use of any follow-up treatments, care for injection sites (if contrast agents were used), and any other aftercare instructions. Ensure that any required post-scan imaging or additional scans are scheduled as necessary. Address any immediate concerns or side effects the patient may experience, especially if contrast agents were administered. Maintenance and Equipment Care: Ensure that the MRI machine is regularly calibrated and functioning correctly, performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary.
