Job Summary: Reporting to the MRI Director/Technical Director, performs all MR imaging exams and procedures in accordance with BIDMC policy and procedures and the ARRT scope of practice. Performs MRI screening and safety for all patients, IV insertions and contrast injections, patient preparation, explanation of exams, ensuring imaging and billing process is complete. Technologist hired at this level will have a proven record of superior level of understanding of MRI physics. This technologist will process exceptional problem skills and self-directed as related to MRI scanning and sequences.
**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Prepares and positions patients for MRI of various parts of the body. Positioning includes setting up equipment (coils, monitoring devices, etc.) and patient in relation to each other to provide best demonstration of body part under study. Is able to lift and postion all coils. Screens patients and personnel for any ferrous metal implants or other objects on them.
2. Selects appropriate pulse sequences from monitoring console for scan procedures. Records all pulse sequences implemented for exam. Evaluates results of scanning procedure for quality of results and completeness. Recognizes problems and rectifies with respect to selection made of operation.
3. Sends images to PACS system, evaluates exam for completeness, and verifies exam in timely manner. Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities.
4. Responds to patient's physical and psychological needs. Explains all procedures in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety. Observes patient's conditions and reports any changes to nurse or physician.
5. Starts an intravenous line on patients requiring IV contrast for the MRI examination with consideration to patients' pain tolerance, anxieties and fears. Monitors patient for contrast reactions and reports any problems promptly to a radiologist, the code team, or both, as indicated.
**Required Qualifications:**
1. Associate's degree in Allied Health required. Bachelor's degree in Allied Health preferred.
2. Registration American Registry of Rad Tech required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., and RT(MR), ARMRIT, or CAMRT registered as an MR technologist.
3. 3-5 years related work experience required.
4. New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification. Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA).
5. MRI experience including complex angiographic, cardiac and body imaging and expertise with 3D reconstructions.
6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
1. Teaching experience on a one to one level and in a classroom setting
2. Experience creating educational material for presentation or publication

Command safe entry to the MRI unit for non-MRI personnel and is responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment.
Screen patients for MRI safety and are responsible for patient positioning, coil and protocol selection.
Performs proper venipuncture with sterile technique.
Administers IV contrast agents.
Maintains BLS/CPR certification.
Documents all information involving the use of IV and oral contrast in Epic.
Exercises independence, sound judgement, creativity and initiative while working in stressful or high-pressure situations.
Will prepare and clean all necessary equipment as well as the scan room before and after each patient.
Performs daily or weekly quality assurance and verifies the safe operation of the MRI unit and other peripheral equipment used by the technologist, including allergic reaction kit and Stroke Pager.
Informs the supervisor or team leader of any equipment needing repairs or service.

Begin and end all MRI exams using Epic with 100% accuracy.
Uses Epic to schedule, arrive, complete and send all patient and MRI exam information.
Scans any relevant documents into Epic media manager.
Works with supervisor, team leader, service coordinators and colleagues to ensure proper utilization of MRI scanners.
Assists with front desk duties when needed due to staffing issues or concerns in order to provide continued patient centered care.
Burn and deliver a CD for the patient when requested.

Command safe entry to the MRI unit for non-MRI personnel and is responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment.
Screen patients for MRI safety and are responsible for patient positioning, coil and protocol selection.
Performs proper venipuncture with sterile technique.
Administers IV contrast agents.
Maintains BLS/CPR certification.
Documents all information involving the use of IV and oral contrast in Epic.
Exercises independence, sound judgement, creativity and initiative while working in stressful or high-pressure situations.
Will prepare and clean all necessary equipment as well as the scan room before and after each patient.
Performs daily or weekly quality assurance and verifies the safe operation of the MRI unit and other peripheral equipment used by the technologist, including allergic reaction kit and Stroke Pager.

Operates MRI console and selects the appropriate patient, protocol as well as selection of designated body part(s). Utilizes various peripheral hardware and software to assist in completion of the MRI exam. Assess patient's condition during the exam and ensure ability of patient to continue with the exam 100% of the time.
Properly evaluate images and recognizes anatomy and pathology and the potential need to alert the radiologist for additional imaging or urgent findings.
Transfers images to PACS and CADSTREAM when exam is complete, confirm that all images are received, processed and that they include the proper patient demographics as well as accession number with 100% accuracy.
Begin and end all MRI exams using Epic with 100% accuracy.
Uses Epic to schedule, arrive, complete and send all patient and MRI exam information.
Scans any relevant documents into Epic media manager.
Works with supervisor, team leader, service coordinators and colleagues to ensure proper utilization of MRI scanners.
Assists with front desk duties when needed due to staffing issues or concerns in order to provide continued patient centered care.
Burn and deliver a CD for the patient when requested.
Will be expected to train and instruct MRItechnologists as well as students on MRI and other peripheral equipment.
