The job summary is as follows: assess cases referred by the Division of Juvenile Justice involving juveniles charged with misdemeanor offenses and determine appropriateness for referral to Mat-Su Youth Court ("MSYC"). Conduct intake interviews with juvenile offenders and their parents or guardians. Recruit students from local schools, including homeschools, to be volunteer MSYC attorneys. Teach (or make the necessary arrangements for teaching) the week-long law class. Responsible for grant writing and other administrative duties. Note: for the purposes of PERS retirement benefits, 30 hours per week is considered full time. For benefits with the City like PTO and health insurance premium payments, the amount will be prorated and will be considered 3/4ths position. Essential Duties The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. * Evaluate cases referred to MSYC.
