Key Role Responsibilities - Core ME ENGINEER FAMILY " CORE Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company's safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. Completes entry level and routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. Learns how to develop budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system. Assists in the review of mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and completes systems analysis for select projects. Learns to develop the mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process. Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process. Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet the schedule requirements. Gains knowledge of design documents in order to identify potential quality problems to assist in developing constructability review reports. Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner. Learns and assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents. Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core SENIOR M/E ENGINEER In addition, this position will be responsible for the following: Completes increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. Develops budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information. Reviews mechanical and electrical options, completes systems analysis, recommends best system for the project and provides value engineering suggestions. Coordinates the mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process. Develops sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet the schedule requirements. Provides scheduling input during projects. Reviews design documents and identifies potential quality problems. Helps develop quality control programs. Performs job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner. Develops pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures. Verifies contractor's performance of functional test. Reviews and approves shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team. Generates and issues the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties. Verifies deficiencies are corrected and submits commissioning documentation to owners. Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers. Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products. Negotiates subcontracts with subcontractors. Purchases equipment from equipment vendors for assigned projects. Builds relationships by being the direct face with the client. Participates in interviews for winning work, presentations and business development efforts. Represents the M/E department and JE Dunn at external community events. Assumes responsibility for resource allocation, staffing of their assigned projects and ensuring reimbursability requirements are met. Horwitz is seeking motivated and professional students for our Engineering Internship Program. This hands-on program provides real-world experience across various engineering disciplines, including Estimating, Service, Preconstruction, Construction, and Design. Graduates/ Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, project managers, and estimators, gaining valuable skills and insights in the field of mechanical engineering. RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES BY DEPARTMENT: These responsibilities generally describe the nature of each position and may not be all inclusive: Estimating Assist in reviewing construction drawings and specifications to help develop basic material and labor take-offs for mechanical systems. Support the preparation of cost estimates by organizing vendor quotes, updating Excel worksheets, and learning estimating software tools. Participate in jobsite walkthroughs and internal estimate review meetings to understand field conditions, scope alignment, and the overall estimating process. Service Assist with entering and organizing incoming service requests while learning how calls are reviewed, documented, and prioritized within the service department. Support dispatch and scheduling activities by helping track technician availability, job status updates, and parts-related follow-ups to ensure smooth workflow. Shadow service coordinators and leadership to observe customer communication, dispatch decision-making, and overall service operations. Preconstruction Manage and solicit Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for project planning. Learn to size and select key mechanical HVAC equipment. Attend job site meetings and walkthroughs, supporting the Preconstruction Manager. Assist in project estimating and gain insight into Horwitz's sales process, including equipment selection and procurement. Construction Join project managers on job site meetings and walkthroughs. Support project management on various projects by preparing O&M manuals, performing Revit modeling, and conducting load calculations. Provide additional support during vacation staffing to maintain project continuity. Design Perform BTU load calculations to assist in equipment sizing for specific projects. Use drafting software (e.g., Revit) to create permit and installation-level drawings. Conduct field visits with lead designers to document existing equipment and site details. Engage in team meetings and research to ensure code compliance and design accuracy. Perform other duties as assigned.
