The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role

Ability to produce production-quality code and services incorporating testing, evaluation, monitoring as well as the ability to quickly adapt to a new domain, hack MVP's, and iterate to improve product
Experience using any of the major cloud vendors for high scale production use cases
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Technologies We Use and Teach
We value general and versatile engineering skill over specific experience with our current stack, but some examples:
Golang, Python, TypeScript, React
gRPC, Protocol Buffers
AWS (Sagemaker, EC2, EKS), Databricks

Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us.
We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Design Engineer, Design Intelligence
Block and 4.3

The Role
At Block, we're building the foundation for a new generation of design intelligence. Systems and tools that help people turn ideas into real, usable products with greater clarity, speed, and confidence. People on this team are curious about how new technologies reshape the way work gets done, and they explore those shifts thoughtfully-balancing experimentation with care for users, teams, and long-term impact. We value clear thinking, systems awareness, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving, where progress comes from shared momentum rather than individual heroics.
This role is well-suited for builders who enjoy learning in motion, experimenting responsibly, and shaping new design × AI patterns that can grow across Block over time.
You Will
Design, build, and evolve AI-assisted tools that support designers and developers in their everyday work.

Work closely with design and engineering partners to shape how design, engineering, and AI come together at Block.
You Have
We don't expect a perfect background or a single “right” path. We're interested in people who have built things, learned deeply, and kept going especially when the path wasn't straightforward.
You may bring this experience through some combination of:
Experience shipping software or tools that solve real problems, in professional, academic, or independent settings.
Hands-on work in design engineering, design systems, creative tooling, or related hybrid roles.
Comfort working with modern front-end technologies.
Exposure to AI or ML systems such as working with APIs, LLMs, or agent-based tools at any depth.
Familiarity with UI and product workflow tools used by designers and engineers.
Examples of building tools or systems that help other people create, move faster, or work better together.
If you also have experience in any of the areas below, that's a bonus:
Collaborating with creative partners such as art directors, motion designers, audio designers, or illustrators.
Open-source, generative, automation-driven, or agentic projects.
Exploring multimodal interfaces like voice, vision, gesture, or AI-driven interactions.
Building for mobile platforms, including iOS, using modern development practices.
