The Role
The AI Engineering Tools team accelerates engineering velocity by integrating AI throughout the software development lifecycle. We're redefining how engineers build software by making development faster, more creative, and more reliable through intelligent, AI-driven tooling. Our mission is to help every engineer at Block leverage AI effectively, safely, and efficiently.
We're looking for an experienced software engineer to help advance the next generation of AI-assisted development at Block. In this role, you'll work across AI infrastructure and developer tooling to build and optimize coding agents that empower engineers company-wide. You'll collaborate with platform and product teams to refine user experiences, introduce new capabilities, and improve the performance of coding agents.
This is a unique opportunity to shape how AI transforms engineering itself. You'll work on projects that continuously improve AI coding agents across all Block repositories, enhancing their ability to understand context, complete tasks, and assist with real-world development workflows.
You Will
Design and build AI-driven developer tools that integrate seamlessly into the software development lifecycle (e.g., intelligent code assistance, inline reviews, or automated refactoring systems).
Partner with vendors and internal teams to evaluate, integrate, and optimize AI engineering tools.
Collaborate with engineering leaders across Block to identify opportunities for AI integration that improve developer velocity and code quality.
Mentor engineers, contribute to design and code reviews, and help establish best practices for building reliable AI systems at scale.
You Have
8+ years of experience building and shipping production systems.
Strong software engineering background, with fluency in designing scalable backend systems.
Deep understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, and applied ML workflows from experimentation and evaluation to deployment and monitoring.
Experience integrating third-party AI models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or custom fine-tuned models) into real-world tools or services.
A pragmatic approach to experimentation and iteration, balancing innovation with reliability and security.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, especially with engineers, product managers, and leadership.
Familiarity with developer ecosystems, IDEs, or productivity platforms is a plus (e.g., VS Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, etc.).
You'll help define how thousands of engineers across Block leverage AI to write better code, faster. Your work will shape the foundation for the next generation of developer productivity - one where AI is a trusted collaborator that elevates creativity, accelerates delivery, and improves software quality at scale.

Full Lifecycle Integration Experience (Prototype → Production)
Job Description:
This position is for a mechanical engineer to design, develop and release LRU mounting, shock and vibration attenuation mounting, radio racks, brush guards, and all aspects of stowage on military ground vehicles.
Depending on workload demands, this person may also work in other areas such as fuel systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automatic fire suppression systems, driver controls, lighting, crew seating, and other mechanical subsystems.
Responsibilities:
Design and integrate shock/vibration LRU mounts, complete stowage packaging, and other mechanical elements into military vehicles. This will include working with suppliers to develop the subsystems and design components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental and mine blast requirements.
Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.
Decompose vehicle performance requirements in order to perform system analysis and select appropriate components such as sensors, cables, handles, springs, pedals, and mechanisms and conduct detailed design of fluid system custom components.
Generate key characteristics, component specifications and perform component selection for supplier purchased parts.
Support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and generating source data for engineering changes.
Write material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
Present design concepts and program status to functional and program management.
Write test plans and perform testing and evaluation of systems.
Direct and oversee CAD model and drawing development.
Conduct failure analysis and corrective action along with responsible for technical writing and presentations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Mechatronics, or related field, from an ABET accredited program.
10+ years of engineering experience in the defense, aerospace, or automotive industry. Military land vehicle experience is preferred.
Prior experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
Experience creating and releasing components, assembly models, and detailed drawings using NX or Creo.
Experience creating drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 standards.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
Basic Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and self-start.
Mind-set to work collaboratively in a team environment for program success.
Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities.
Experience with root cause and corrective activities.

Description
Coughlin Porter Lundeen is seeking a structural staff engineer; this position involves the design and preparation of construction documents on diverse project types including a variety of building materials. As an integral member of the design process, structural engineers are challenged to develop project management skills, lead in-house design teams, and work firsthand with a diverse range of clients. Engineers are involved with every aspect of the project from design through construction. This position requires sound technical skills, strong communication skills, and a professional attitude.
Required Qualifications
BSCE or MSCE degree (MSCE Preferred)
0-4 years structural design experience
Licensure: Minimum EIT required and in process to get P.E.
Requires effective interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Must have initiative, be resourceful, and able to work independently.
Must be able to effectively prioritize, manage time and projects, and multi-task in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Works effectively as an individual or as part of a project team.

$80,000-90,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications)

The Role

You Will
Own and maintain mission-critical ML feature computation and serving systems that support millions of daily feature requests
Design and build the next-generation ML feature platform to enable faster iteration and higher-quality ML models across Block
Partner closely with Data Scientists, ML Modelers and Software Engineers to deliver reliable, performant, and scalable systems
Drive architectural decisions, system reliability improvements, and infrastructure automation
Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices in large-scale distributed systems, feature engineering, and ML infrastructure
Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement
You Have
5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ in large-scale data or ML infrastructure
Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin or Go
Experience building and operating distributed data systems at scale (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka, Databricks, Snowflake)
Proven ability to design for high performance, scalability, and reliability
Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and containerized systems (Kubernetes, Docker)
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally with ML practitioners and infrastructure engineers
Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical direction on complex projects
