Blyth Inc company history timeline

1977

When Goergen took over a small candle maker in 1977, he was just 37 years old and already had a varied career behind him.

1982

By 1982, these acquisitions had helped raise Blyth's sales to $26 million.

1988

In 1988, the company introduced a new subsidiary, Atmospherix Ltd., as it expanded its line of fragrance products.

1994

To fuel continued growth and to expand production capacity to meet the growing demand for its products, Blyth went public in 1994, raising more than $50 million.

1995

By then, the company had made a secondary offering, of 1.5 million shares in October 1995.

1996

The Hallmark partnership was not yet expected to add greatly to Blyth's revenues, predicted to reach $470 million for the year, for 1996.

1998

In 1998, sales climbed 29 percent over the previous year to $687.5 million.

1999

Sales continued their upward climb in 1999.

2000

During fiscal 2000, sales surpassed the billion dollar mark.

2002

Those divestitures, coupled with the company's restructuring and weakening consumer demand, forced the closure of its Chicago manufacturing facility in its fiscal year 2002.
