Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Mission or Director of Spiritual Care, the Chaplain I ministers to patients, families, and staff around religious and spiritual needs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the chaplain provides spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss, and death. The chaplain is committed to the Mission and models its core values.
Essential Functions:
Recognizes the sacramental needs of the Catholic population.
Provide for religious and ritual needs of diverse faith groups.
Minister to a diverse population in a non-proselytizing manner and provide basic emotional and spiritual support to patients, visitors, our community, and fellow associates.
Provide constructive pastoral presence by employing pastoral skills including active listening and the ability to communicate in a calm, non-anxious manner.
Provide spiritual support to end-of-life situations and crisis' (Code Blue, Death, Trauma, etc.).
24/7 call with expectations for holidays/weekends

Education:
Bachelor's degree (required), preferably in a related field such as Religious or Theological Studies

Required Licensing & Certifications:

One (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed (preferred)
Experience:
Experience as a Chaplain in a healthcare setting. (preferred)
Completion of lay ministry or in the ordination process. (Required)
Documentation of faith community endorsement by official representative(s) reflecting good standing in accordance with the requirements of his/her own faith/spiritual tradition to be involved in hospital ministry. (Required)

Primary Function:
The Chaplain will provide spiritual care for patients, family and staff. The Chaplain will function as an interdisciplinary member of the patient unit care teams addressing emotional, spiritual, and other support needs. The chaplain is an invaluable asset to the spiritual care department. While offering expertise and flexibility they are esteemed because of their adaptability and availability.

Ensure and monitor compliance with hospital procedures, charting, and statistics.

Qualifications:
Required Successful completion of 1 unit of CPE, more than 1 unit preferred
Endorsement, ordination and/or letter of support affirming candidates' suitability from appropriate leadership within candidates' spiritual tradition.

Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, skills in working independently and interdependently, and a strong team member, required
Board certification preferred

* Prepares a spiritual plan to address specific issues identified by the spiritual assessments. Shares plan with appropriate staff members.
* Is an active member of the interdisciplinary team and participates in team conferences every two weeks.

This one-year residency allows for position to engage in Clinical Pastoral Education in accordance with the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation. Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families, visitors, and staff. Work collaboratively with the Department of Pastoral Care staff and participate in department activities and events. Provide on-call pastoral care coverage on a rotating basis

Provide on-call pastoral care coverage on a rotating basis.

Licensing/Certification

Education
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent and a background in theology required.
Master of Divinity preferred. One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred.
