A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SENIOR CONSTRUCTIONESTIMATOR
In this position, you play a vital role in our company. Every day, you arrive at our corporate office ready to perform a variety of important tasks, including confirming take-offs, reviewing work estimated, and making sure the risks associated with the work are understood. A natural-born leader, you oversee and direct the work of the assigned estimators and junior estimators as well as occasionally oversee our project engineers.
Using your organizational skills, you prepare project overviews and pre-bid information as well as perform specification and special provision reviews. You collaborate with our operational staff to validate any construction productions as well as the means, methods, and equipment ideas utilized in item pricing. No matter what, you ensure the costs estimated are accurate and as low as possible.
Demonstrating your commitment to safety, you adeptly navigate the pre-bid job sites you visit. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SENIOR CONSTRUCTIONESTIMATOR
* 10+ years of experience as an estimator in hard bid and unit priced work in a DOT or Federal contract setting
* Bachelor's degree in business, civil engineering, construction management, or other related fields
* Proficiency with the HCSS HeavyBid estimating electronic estimating system
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
* Ability to prioritize estimating tasks and workflow to meet estimate review schedules and bid dates
* Ability to read, interpret, and understand project plans, specifications, and scope of work

Safety:

This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Summary/Objective:
ACI's MEP Project Managers oversee all aspects of planning and implementing the delivery of our commercial construction projects, including Mechanical, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, HVAC, Electrical, Fire Protection (sprinkler), and our respective subcontractors. PM's are knowledgeable in the design and construction of MEP systems and will be responsible for reviewing plans and specifications for design and constructability issues.
Essential Functions:
Build and maintain a positive relationship with internal project teams, our customers, subcontractors, and key vendors
Build positive morale on the project site
Coordinate with various internal departments such as pre-construction, sales, safety, purchasing, CAD/BIM, and fabrication shops as well as client personnel and others to: Develop and maintain a construction plan and schedule
Scope out vendor quotes and purchase equipment and material
Scope out subcontractors and issue subcontracts
Provide guidance for the fabrication schedule
Daily monitoring of key metrics daily (manpower, material/equipment deliveries, etc.) and mentors site leadership to support the timely execution and completion of the work within budget with no defects or accidents
Prepare, monitor, and maintain project budgets, and reports to senior management on key metrics
Create Revenue Forecasts, Schedule of Values, Cash Flow analysis, and other financial analysis
Identify changes in scope, prepares pricing, and submits potential change orders to customer
When necessary, develop recovery plans to bring a project that is experiencing issues, such as issues with safety, quality, or production back on trac
Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes
Required:
Preferred bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering OR related field, and/or 8+ years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Must be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills

Summary/Objective:
The Special Projects Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on projects assigned by the Estimating Manager. These will usually be smaller commercial construction projects and deal with pip
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the complete assembly of all estimates on projects assigned to you, for various trades, from the time that plans and specs are issued to bid day. Majority focus is on M.E.P.
Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
Review all construction documents including instructions to bidders, scope of work, and general conditions
Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and/or email
Assist in development of bid strategies
Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasions
Prepare detailed estimates by reviewing take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
Review in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications
Develop rough draft scope of work for proposals
Assist in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials and equipment
Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team
Experience in providing budgets, estimates, construction schedules, and manpower projections
Work as part of a team and coordinate scope of work between in-house trades
Must be a self-starter, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills

Required:
2+ years' trades estimating experience in commercial and/or industrial construction projects or equivalent combination of education and experience
1+ years' Estimating/Pre-Construction experience. If candidate has strong knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, ACI can train into estimating.
Demonstrate knowledge and efficiency in computer/network based estimating software (i.e. Autobid, Quote Soft, TSI, Estimation, etc.)
Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
Understanding and capable of construction assemblies
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Must be able to meet critical deadlines
Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
Must be available to work assigned schedules
The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:
Work Environment:
Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
Position will require visits to construction and industrial work sites
Physical Demands:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants and/or on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floors/levels.
Travel:
May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)
Preferred:
AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related discipline
Prior military experience
