Job Description
Perform selected clinical duties that assist in the delivery of patient care management to the degree of training and as delegated by Office Manager, practice physician(s), nurse practitioner(s), physician assistant(s) or nurse(s). Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care by controlling patient flow, obtaining and documenting necessary history and vital signs, performing assigned procedures, and providing patient education.
This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position supporting the Division of Rheumatology at our East Providence office.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Medicine Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Rooms patients (Vitals, weight, medications, PMH, Surgical History, Family History, Drug allergy, social history (smoking history and alcohol use etc.), .
Maintains a smooth patient flow.
Manages patient's call for non-urgent issues (e.g., reminder of appointment date, scheduling/ rescheduling issues etc.)
Administers prescribed medications and treatments
Observes, records and reports patients' vitals and reactions to treatments.
Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems.
Maintains accurate patient records.
Assures patient stays for required observation time after injection(s).
Reacts appropriately in patient reaction situations; informs physician and/or other clinical staff as necessary to mitigate adverse reactions.
Responsible for following OSHA regulations.
Maintains patient, employee and clinic confidentiality.
Obtains medical records, procedure/lab test result
Ensures cleanliness of room
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or GED.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or demonstrated experience of a minimum of one-year experience gained through prior employment.
National certification preferred.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures as dictated by specialty area.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate appropriately.
Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisor and peers.
EXPERIENCE:
Prefer a minimum of one-year experience working in a medical setting.

Qualifications

* National third-party certification, such as AMCA, AAMA, AMT, CCMA (NHA certification), or NCMA (NCCT certification) is required within thirteen (13) months of hire as a non-certified Medical Assistant.
* Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program, or equivalent medical office practice experience, is required.
* BLS certification is also required.
* Prior experience in using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and/or health-related computer software is preferred.
* One (1) year of medical assistance work experience is preferred.
* Fluent in a language other than English and Medical Interpreting is preferred.
* Other certifications, based on practice specialty may be preferred.

Job Summary
The position of Clinical Practice Assistant in Providence, RI and Plainville, MA reports into the Clinical Ophthalmology Manager. The Clinical Practice Assistant position will be responsible for providing administrative support to physicians in a high-volume and team-oriented environment in a retinal clinic setting, functioning as the primary interface between patients and providers. Emphasis is placed on the ability to stay organized and to prioritize administrative tasks related to patient care. Role requires management of confidential patient information, scheduling patient appointments, answering phones with the highest level of customer service, checking patients in and out of appointments, collecting copayments, and helping to manage incoming information via phone or fax, triaging and communication with patients regarding follow-up care and results, and managing work queues. The position of Clinical Practice Assistant in Providence, RI and Plainville, MA reports into the Clinical Ophthalmology Manager. The Clinical Practice Assistant position will be responsible for providing administrative support to physicians in a high-volume and team-oriented environment in a retinal clinic setting, functioning as the primary interface between patients and providers. Emphasis is placed on the ability to stay organized and to prioritize administrative tasks related to patient care. Role requires management of confidential patient information, scheduling patient appointments, answering phones with the highest level of customer service, checking patients in and out of appointments, collecting copayments, and helping to manage incoming information via phone or fax, triaging and communication with patients regarding follow-up care and results, and managing work queues. We are looking for motivated applicants who can be flexible to work in a fast-paced environment; preference for candidates who are quick learners with excellent computer and customer service skills.
MAAI:
Performs both administrative and clinical functions to support smooth and efficient clinical service or practice operations under close to general supervision. Performs basic clerical work and tasks that are repetitive and routine. Administrative duties related to patient visits including scheduling, check-in, check-out duties. Completion of an Associate's degree or certification program in medical assisting, preferred
Experience in health care setting, required
Experience working in a community health center, preferred
Knowledge of referral process and insurance companies, preferred
Medical terminology knowledge, preferred
Electronic Health Record experience, preferred
Ability to effectively use MS Office Suite, Internet, and email
Cultural sensitivity necessary to work with a diverse patient and staff population
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

Medical Assistant General Responsibilities: Provides support by performing clinical and administrative duties under the direction of a Health Care Provider to ensure excellent quality of care to patients. Duties may include, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height), recording information in patient's chart, preparing treatment rooms for examination of patients, and obtaining medical history.
Required Qualifications:
Interest in working in Pediatrics, or Behavioral Health is a must.
High School Diploma or equivalent substitute.
Post-secondary training in Medical Assistant program.
Bi-lingual desirable.
Organizational skills.
Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
EMR experience preferred

Physical Effort/Environment:
Requires walking, bending, and occasional lifting.

Significant Job Functions:
Clinical:
Responsible for preparing provider requested forms, office notes, and external records prior to the patient's scheduled visit.
Monitor the providers schedule to ensure that patients are scheduled according to established scheduling guidelines
Works in conjunction with the provider to ensure timeliness of visits
Greet patients and obtain vital signs, (i.e. blood pressure, height, weight, etc.)
Confirm the reason for the patient visit and obtain patient history's when applicable
Document requests for medication refills
Perform routine diagnostic testing
Responsible for managing telephone encounters as assigned in a timely manner
Prepare patients and the exam room based on the visit type
Operate, clean, and maintain clinical equipment
Properly prepare instruments for the autoclave
Properly dispose of medical waste and sharps
Assist providers in rooms as needed
Clean and stock rooms.
Alert appropriate staff to any expired medications or medical supplies
Perform opening and closing duties as assigned and based on established workflows
Administrative
Complete paperwork as needed and maintain departmental logs as needed
Alert appropriate staff by using established workflows of any clinical or office supply shortages.
Use appropriate stamps when indicated for confidential patients, lab orders, and mailings.
Correctly printing patient identify labels and affixing them to the appropriate forms, orders, and requisitions
Able to obtain lab results for external facilities
Maintain professional standards of behavior
Properly complete documentation, scanning, and faxing of requests for patient records
Perform other job-related duties as needed
$18.25 per hour and up as well as a $500 bonus after 90 Days Employment
