The CVOR service line provides surgical interventions for routine and complex cardiac, thoracic and vascular procedures. Cardiac procedures include coronary artery bypass, valve repair/replacement, aortic dissection, heart transplantation, placement of ventricular assist devices, and may include placement of impella or intra - aortic balloon pump placement as well as adult ECMO. TAVR procedures are also done in the endovascular OR Thoracic cases include both laparoscopic, robot assisted and open procedures. Vascular procedures range from placement/revision of ESRD grafts/fistulas to endovascular procedures in the endovascular OR. The CVOR service line is comprised of 4-6 ORs depending on daily volume including an endovascular suite. The CVOR service line has the capacity to do four concurrent procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.
Candidates applying to this order must have a minimum of 3 years of recent full time experience as a CVOR technologist in a high volume hospital setting, with demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of cardiac/thoracic/vascular procedures. Candidates with less experience or requiring extensive onboarding will not be considered
Current CST certification required, must provide verifiable references from at least two prior travel assignments confirming no training was needed. Must be able to function independently in a fast paced surgical environment with the ability to hit the ground running.
The schedule will either be 8, 10 or 12 day hour shifts Monday-Friday based on department need at the time of interview. Candidates must also participate in call coverage for the service line after normal business hours and weekends.

The surgical assistant performs specific tasks according to individual surgeon preference utilizing appropriate techniques including, but not limited to: incision and layered closure of surgical sites, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis by means of injection, manual, and topical methods, and application of appropriate energy sources, manipulation and dissection/removal of tissues, aides in implanting, securing, and/or removal of devices and drains, and applying appropriate dressing material specific to procedure.
The surgical assistant applies any other specific dressing material such as splints or casts. Assesses skin integrity, assists in transfer of the patient, and follows the patient to recovery if needed or directed by surgeon.
The surgical assistant who has appropriate training also performs under surgeon supervision other procedures including but not limited to: vein and graft harvesting, and graft and implant preparation.
The surgical assistant performs additional duties as delegated by the surgeon in cooperation with state and local policy.
