Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collects and processes patient and control specimens in accordance with Health Center laboratory policies and procedures.
2. Judges appropriateness of test order vs. given diagnosis and checks with Laboratory Manager if any question.
3. Handles and disposes of lab specimens in accordance with Health Center policies and procedures.
4. Produces accurate test results in a timely manner.
5. Responds to inquiries to the lab.
6. Conducts waive testing.
7. Documents all lab issues on appropriate logs including QC, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.
8. Initiates mechanisms to improve departmental efficiency and quality of work.
9. Assists in the development, maintenance and updating of laboratory policies and procedures.
10. Assists in the development and monitoring of the Quality Assurance Plan for the laboratory; reports progress to the Laboratory Manager as well as the Health Center's QA Director and the Chief Executive Officer.
11. Brings any issue that cannot be resolved to the attention of the Laboratory Manager.

Ability to process lab work, and office procedures, and make appointments for diagnostic or specialty testing while educating patients about procedures and preparation for procedures.
Prepares (to include stocking of medical supplies as needed) and cleans exam rooms for provider/patient needs.
Completes proper sterilization of all office instruments and equipment as necessary.
Assesses all clinical calls with the provider to determine acuity.
Must have the ability to administer injections and have knowledge of immunizations.
Maintains smooth flow in the daily schedule between providers and patients.
Maintains electronic medical records, reads and adds dictation to records, scanning lab results.
Upon provider orders, relays patient prescriptions to the pharmacist, follow-up orders, and notification of test results.
Responsible for obtaining and preparing electronic medical records for providers to review and document.
Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, including venipuncture, using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes, and butterfly needles.
Interacts directly with patient records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.
Utilizes standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification; records appropriate collection information by the established protocol.
Processes, registers, orders, labels, and stores blood samples for subsequent analysis.
Maintains the inventory of supplies, reordering as required; stacks supplies on carts and hand trays.
Perform various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
Requirements
Availability Requirements:
Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. May require evening or weekend hours.
Education:
High school diploma or GED Preferred.
Maintain Medical Assistant Certification or obtain within one year of the date of hire.
At least one year of recent, directly related experience including three months practicum gained in a physician practice, hospital, or laboratory setting or a Phlebotomy Certificate - preferred.
Must maintain BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
