DSH-A is a 1200 bed state hospital serving men under a variety of criminal and civil commitments. DSH-A hires pre-licensed and licensed psychologists with an excellent salary and benefits package. DSH-A's patient population provides psychologists with exceptional experience in inpatient treatment and assessment, as well as interdisciplinary teamwork. We provide training in working with Incompetent to Stand Trial, Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, Offenders with Mental Health Disorders, and Mentally Ill Inmate populations. We offer training on evidence-based assessment tools such as the START, HCR-20v3, PCL-R, and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Our APA-accredited doctoral internship provides opportunities to supervise psychology interns.
The Psychologist will be directed by the Chief Psychologist and/or Senior Psychologist Supervisor in Psychology Services at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to:
* Completing an Admission Psychological Assessment (APA) to further delineate and clarify psychiatric and psychological diagnoses
* Conducting intellectual and cognitive assessments of all patients when clinically indicated
* Conducting psychological assessments
* Responsible for creating and monitoring behavioral interventions
* Providing timely feedback to the patient, the results of psychological assessments and evaluations and complete appropriate documentation of this interaction
* Delivering treatment services
* Performing treatment team duties
* If qualified, licensed psychologists provide clinical supervision to pre-doctoral interns and unlicensed professionals as requested by the Chief Psychologist

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Psychologist-Health Facility-Clinical-Safety positions. The Psychologist works under the administrative direction and clinical direction of the Chief Psychologist and the local Senior Psychologist Supervisor.
Apply psychological knowledge and techniques to the problems of mental and developmental disabilities in children, adolescents, and adults; conduct various forms of group and individual therapy; evaluate programs; provide training; serve as consultants.
Conduct treatment interventions including individual and group psychotherapy, specialized treatment interventions, and crisis intervention. Write and implement behavior plans. Develop and implement behavioral interventions for high-risk medical refusers.
Complete initial psychological assessments (APAs), and psychological evaluations and assessments as required, including selection, administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests within an examination context. Complete forensic evaluations (risk assessments, competency assessments, malingering assessments, and court reports) as indicated. Assist with suicide and homicide risk assessment.
Document psychological services. Assist in preparation of treatment plans and write progress notes for patients on caseload as required. Monthly notes for patients who are receiving psychotherapy services and quarterly notes as clinically indicated. Complete Psychology section of the Special Incident Report (SIR) for behavioral SIRs.
Participate with the interdisciplinary team in scheduled treatment team meetings, progress reviews, and dispositional staffing's. Attend morning meetings. Consult with the team psychiatrist and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care. Interact with outside agencies as needed.
Serve as qualified expert witness when required by the courts.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Please note: Individuals may be eligible to receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend should they meet the eligibility criteria, including but not limited to remaining employed with CCHCS for six months. Additionally, individuals may be eligible to receive a monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year with CCHCS (totaling $20,000), should they meet the eligibility criteria.
IMPORTANT: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus should you be selected for hire and remain employed with CCHCS for 90 days. Under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist, Correctional Facility (Supervisor), the Psychologist-Clinical, Correctional Facility, is responsible for preadmission screenings, psychologist evaluation of inmates admitted to the program, crisis intervention, individual therapy, treatment and discharge planning, participating in interdisciplinary team evaluations, and consulting with the psychiatrist, nursing and other staff. The psychologist may be assigned other clinical duties throughout the institution, including participation in staff meeting, institutional committees, and consults with custody staff as well as supervision and training to students, interns, unlicensed psychologists and other staff. The psychologist may also participate in program evaluation and research, and may provide consultation on research design and analysis of data.
Minimum Qualifications:
License: Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
Individuals who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Psychology or who are in the process of securing this license will be admitted into the examination and may be appointed, but must secure a valid license within three years of an appointment or the employment shall be terminated. For persons employed less than full time, an extension of a waiver of licensure may be granted for additional years proportional to the extent of part-time employment, as long as the person is employed without interruption in service, but in no case shall the waiver exceed five years.
(Unlicensed individuals who are recruited from outside the State of California and who qualify for licensure may take the examination and may be appointed for a maximum of two years at which time licensure shall have been obtained or the employment shall be terminated. Additionally, they must take the licensure examination at the earliest possible date after the date of employment.)

Working Conditions

The Senior Psychologist, Specialist will be directed by the Chief Psychologist and/or Senior Psychologist, Supervisor in Psychology Services at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
* Provide group treatment to patients as needed. Provide direct crisis intervention or psychotherapeutic services to patients.
* Provide individual therapy as indicated by the clinical needs of the patients
* Work with nursing staff and other service providers to develop and assist with training of level of care staff and other treatment team members on behavioral intervention requirements.
* Document all interventions and services provided to patients.
* Applies and demonstrates knowledge of correct methods in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions (TSI). * On request by another team member or when indicated, evaluate patients for risk of harm and when necessary to protect self or others order enhanced observation.
* Responsible for creating and monitoring behavioral interventions as clinically necessary.

Under the direction of the Chief Psychologist and Supervising Psychologist, the Senior Psychologist Specialist, Neuropsychologist provides support and consultation to unit-based psychologists and other clinicians in the Department of State Hospitals system at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). Neuropsychologists also have the opportunity to contribute to the pre-doctoral internship program and other departments or programs in the hospital.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to:
* Provide centralized, hospital-wide neuropsychological assessment of patients by referral from treatment teams and unit psychologists.
* Medical chart reviews, clinical neuropsychological patient interviews.
* Diagnose neuropsychological impairment, develop and recommend patient-specific clinical management interventions.
* Communicate neuropsychological evaluation results via written and, as needed, via oral reports.
* Continually assess neuropsychological instruments.
* Consultation regarding neuropsychological evaluations and/or rehabilitation.

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Senior Psychologist Supervisor position. The position requires the ability to supervise Staff Psychologists who are part of interdisciplinary treatment teams as a part of the DSH-Patton Department of Psychology. A training and development (T&D) assignment may be considered.
Under the direction of the Chief Psychologist, the Senior Psychologist Supervisor provides direct supervision, mentoring, and guidance to psychologists in the Department of State Hospitals system. The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Coordinator also provides direct observation and consultation, leadership, and functional direction to interdisciplinary treatment teams in applying psychological treatment methods (particularly DBT) to individual programs. The DBT Coordinator supports and encourages the use of psychological assessment data and other forms of outcome data and oversees a program evaluation process for DBT treatment provided within the hospital setting. The DBT Coordinator oversees and coordinates hospital-based and statewide continuing education trainings. The DBT Coordinator also serves as a liaison with statewide administrators regarding the implementation of DBT within the Department of State Hospitals. Clinical psychologist job at California State Association of Counties
Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit R19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Psychologist, Correctional Facility (CF) (Specialist) performs as the clinical systems expert and provides psychological consultation relating to the institution's health care performance management programs and processes. The Senior Psychologist, CF (Specialist) serves as an advisor to institution executives, and acts as a liaison with the Statewide Quality Officer and Quality Management Section staff, statewide executives in various disciplines, other institution Chief Quality Officers (CQO), and other stakeholder groups as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications License: Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
Individuals who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Psychology or who are in the process of securing this license will be admitted into the examination and may be appointed, but must secure a valid license within three years of appointment or the employment shall be terminated. Under the general direction of the Chief Psychologist, Correctional Facility (CF) or Chief of Mental Health Services, the Senior Psychologist, CF (Specialist), Suicide Prevention, Training and Assessment Coordinator coordinates the institution's suicide prevention program, including training, suicide risk evaluations, internal reviews of suicide attempts and completed suicides, and institutional audits, reviews, and improvement of suicide prevention practices. The Senior Psychologist, CF, (Specialist) also coordinates and monitors the Mental Health Program's training activities and has oversight of the psychological assessment program. The Senior Psychologist, CF (Specialist), maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and protects and maintains the safety of persons and property. Some travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications
License: Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and
Education: Possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an educational institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
Individuals who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Psychology or who are in the process of securing this license will be admitted into the examination and may be appointed, but must secure a valid license within three years of appointment or the employment shall be terminated. The Clinical Psychology Intern is an individual who is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in clinical psychology at a recognized university or professional school. The clinical psychology internship provides the final required year of applied clinical service in psychology training.
As an Affiliate Member of DSH-Metropolitan Psychology Services, the Clinical Psychology Intern adheres to the following: Psychology Service Rules and Regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws, Administrative Directives, and all DSH-Metropolitan policies and procedures. The Clinical Psychology Intern aspires to the highest standards of the profession through efforts to practice in accordance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Guidelines, Specialty Guidelines, and Standards for Providers of Psychological Services. The Clinical Psychology Intern familiarizes herself/himself with, and conforms psychology practices, to the laws and regulations governing the practice of psychology in the state of California.

The Department of State Hospitals-Metropolitan is currently accepting applications for Clinical Social Worker (Health/Correctional Facility) - Safety; Permanent/Fulltime. Working Title: Clinical Social Worker (Health/Correctional Facility) - Safety, Discharge and Community Integration Specialist.
Under the supervision of the hospital's Chief of Social Work Services, and in consultation with the statewide DSH Program Director for Discharge and Community Integration (DCI), the Discharge and Community Integration Specialist is a coordinator of hospital-based discharge efforts for civil and forensic patients within DSH, including but not limited to: training, resource development, strategic partnership, program implementation and evaluation, ongoing data collection and monitoring, and policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Forensic Conditional Release Program (CONREP) as it relates to discharge and community integration of relevant legal commitments and implementation of the new referral process. Serves as a trainer for staff, and as hospital liaison to the statewide Discharge and Community Integration program. Occasional limited travel may occur and reimbursement will be in accordance with BU agreements and standard travel policies.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must possess completion of a Master's degree in Social Work program from an accredited school of social work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 1 year work experience as a Clinical Social Worker in a mental health facility and possession of LCSW licensure are highly desired.
