Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) permanent, full-time appointment to the Plumber I position in the Facility Operations Department. The position is under the direction of the Plumbing Supervisor. Applicants must possess the following requirements and knowledge:
Plumber I responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:
* Inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing equipment relating to water, gas, oil, sewer, and fire control.
* Knowledgeable in Construction and General Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety applicable to plumbing and relevant building codes.
* Troubleshoot plumbing systems.
* Knowledgeable of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing industry.
* Maintain and adhere to tool control policy and procedures.
* Maintain accurate record keeping.
* Ability to read blueprints, work from plans and specifications, prepare rough sketches for minor plumbing installations and estimate material and labor cost.
* Adhere to safety and security policies and procedures.
* Knowledgeable of building, construction, and safety codes applicable to the plumbing industry.
* Ability to bend, reach, ascent stairs, slopes, and inclines.
* Work at heights applicable to trade demands, and labor in the outdoors in all weather conditions.
Successful candidate must be dependable, have interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate and communicate professionally with others, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, the Plumber II, CF, is responsible for instructing, directing the work crew of Plumbers and inmates to install, maintain, inspect and repair standard plumbing equipment concerned with water, gas, propane, sewage, and Fire Control System. Maintains order and supervises the conduct of inmates, prevents escape and injury to themselves or others or to state property, maintain security of working areas and work materials, inspects premises and searches inmates for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs. Individuals who are eligible for Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position (s). Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, this position will plan, lay-out, lead and inspect the work of a crew of plumbers and other workers including incarcerated workers assigned in plumbing installation and repair work. Lay out, directs and assists with the work of installing, maintaining, inspecting and repairing standard plumbing equipment used in water, gas, oil, sewage, fire control, steam and refrigeration systems. Instructs, leads, and works with a small incarcerated worker crew in installing and repairing the pumps and locating trouble spots in plumbing systems; sees that safety rules are observed; may supervise the maintenance of a Plumbing Shop; prepares working sketches and estimates for needed plumbing equipment and materials; after training and certification through a recognized educational program to meet the OSHA requirement for a "competent person" and/or a "certified supervisor'; assists in the planning and work of abatement and repairs to asbestos containing materials as required; maintains job records and prepares reports. Plans and lays out schedules; requisitions materials and equipment necessary to complete work orders in assigned areas; reads schematics, plans, and blueprints; provides guidance to incarcerated person work crews in the completion of maintenance work orders; ensures that materials and equipment are prepared and ready for scheduled work; contacts outside vendors for price quotes; prepares Form CDC 954 (Intraoffice Requisition); keeps simple work records. Perform administrative duties including, but not limited to adhere to Department policies, rules and procedures; submit administrative requests including leave, travel, and training in a timely and appropriate manner; accurately report time and submit timesheets by the due date. San Quentin Rehab Center is California's oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
