The Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I (Safety) is under the clinical and administrative supervision of the Chief of Social Work in Social Work Services at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
* Provides supervision and oversight of assigned Clinical Social Workers and interns.
* Collaborates with Program Management and Chief of Social Work to evaluate Social Work staff performance and takes or recommends appropriate action.
* Assists in the implementation of Performance Improvement.
* Administers audit tools including entering data into databases.
* Interprets and analyzes findings for reports. Proposes improvements in service delivery as a result of findings. Plans and implements necessary changes in service delivery.
* Provide coverage during the absence of the Chief of Social Work.
* Provides in-services and training to Social Work staff. Provide orientation regarding social work duties and responsibilities to new Social Work staff.
* Provide individual and group treatment for observation and purposes. Completes clinical Social Work assessments and documentation.
* Applies and demonstrates knowledge of correct methods in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions (TSI). Assist in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment through response to physical assaults, escape attempts or other major patient disturbance, and assist in the management of the conduct of the patients.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 16, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 4.62 percent and will receive 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.
This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent.
Recruitment and Retention Bonus may be available for clinicians newly hired with California Correctional Health Care Services.
Please note: Individuals may be eligible to receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend should they meet the eligibility criteria, including but not limited to remaining employed with CCHCS for six months. Under the supervision of the Chief Psychologist, the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I (SPSWI), plans, organizes, and directs the psychiatric social work program. The SPSWI maintains adherence to social work policies of the department; conduct staff meetings; train staff, evaluates staff performance and takes or recommend appropriate action; personally performs or supervises research relating to psychiatric social work; participates in staff conferences; assists in the development of effective social work procedures; works with institutional and headquarters staff for the purpose of improving policies and procedures as they relate to the social work program; develops and directs discharge planning and arranges for referral of patients and/or inmates for placement and community resources; addresses groups on the psychiatric social work program ;dictates correspondence and prepares reports. The direct supervision of staff and area(s) of responsibility will vary based on the assigned area of the SPSWI. The SPSWI provides general supervision to the following staff: Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, and Office Technicians. The Clinical Social Worker is under the administration and clinical supervision of the Chief of Social Work Service through the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to:
* Conduct or co-lead weekly treatment groups.
* Meet with and provide social work services for patients who have identified need, as defined by the Social Work Service.
* Develop and maintain contact with family of patients, as appropriate, and provide them with information when proper release forms have been signed by the patient allowing contact.
* Applies and demonstrates knowledge of correct methods in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions (TSI). Assist in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment through response to physical assaults, escape attempts or other major patient disturbance, and assist in the management of the conduct of the patients.
* Participate in all Interdisciplinary Treatment Team reviews of each patient on assigned caseload; provide input on progress in treatment; report on family, social and community resources; identify current and ongoing treatment needs, and make recommendations.
* Write clinical progress notes describing and evaluating the patients' responses treatment, as defined by the Social Work Service.
* Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, State's Conditional Release Program, Department of Corrections, Parole Agents, and/or representative from the dispositional setting to formulate an outpatient treatment contract/discharge plan and facilitate the patient discharge to the dispositional setting.

Effective July 1, 2025 in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Under the general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker II, the Supervising Clinical Social Worker, Pre- release Unit oversees the implementation and coordination of social work services to pre-release program patients to help facilitate successful reentry into the community. The incumbent will provide guidance and direction to pre-release coordinators statewide to ensure the quality of care and services to pre-release patients to promote positive outcomes for pre-release patients and to help reduce recidivism.
Please note: Individuals may be eligible to receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend should they meet the eligibility criteria, including but not limited to remaining employed with CCHCS for six months.
