* Prepare questionnaires for industry related to programmatic objectives

Department Information
Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship (AUS) is the statewide program intended to promote actions that will slow the development of resistant bacteria associated with livestock and poultry that have negative public and animal health impacts. The program gathers data and develops studies related to medically important antimicrobial sales and usage, livestock management practices, and trends in antibiotic resistance associated with farm animals and animal products. Additionally, AUS works with subject matter experts to develop antimicrobial stewardship tools and best animal management practices that mitigate the development of antimicrobial resistance while maintaining health outcomes.
Under the general guidance of the Research Scientist Supervisor II (RSSII), the Veterinarian Specialist (Specialist) plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs activities related to the State's antimicrobial use and resistance monitoring program.

Under the general direction of a Supervising Veterinarian, the Veterinarian (General) plans, organizes and coordinates activities related to animal health, food safety, emergency management with duties including but not limited to:
* Plan, organize and coordinate animal health management activities, such as:
* Diagnosing livestock and poultry diseases
* Performing tests, necropsies and collect samples from animals and the environment
* In collaboration with the Branch ADT lead and District Scientific Staff Lead:

The Animal Health Branch (AHB) functions as California's organized, professional veterinary medical unit to protect public health, animal agriculture, and the economy from catastrophic animal diseases and other related health and agricultural problems. AHB addresses livestock diseases and issues that require statewide coordinated resources; implements programs that protect public health and animal agriculture; and ensures the availability, affordability, and wholesomeness of food.
The Animal Health Branch is advertising to fill an Veterinarian Specialist (General) within the Tulare District Office.
Under the general direction of the Supervising Veterinarian (Veterinarian in Charge, VIC), the Veterinarian Specialist (General) plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs activities related to administrative, animal health, food safety, emergency management with duties including but not limited to:
Disaster and Disease Mitigation, Prevention, & Preparedness
* Plan, organize, coordinate, and analyze animal health surveillance, disease response, and mitigation activities within the Tulare District, for the purposes of preparing for and responding to livestock and poultry disease outbreaks; planning and implementing appropriate disease mitigation measures; and recommending animal disease policy and procedure changes
* Serve as the lead for developing and updating the Tulare District response plan to be used for activation of the District Animal Response Team (DART) during an animal disease outbreak or activation of the California Animal Response Emergency System (CARES) within the Tulare District
Administrative Branch Duties
* Serve as the Assistant Veterinarian in Charge to:
* Recruit, train, and lead other Tulare District staff
* Represent the District and Branch at professional and industry meetings
* Review, apply, and enforce laws, regulations, and policies of the Department and of various local, State, and Federal government agencies in all aspects of assigned duties
* Participate in strategic planning for the District, Branch, Division, or Department

Working Conditions
The duties of this position are conducted both indoors and outdoors and may occasionally require work under difficult conditions. This position will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Thorough medical evaluation for use of various levels of respiratory protective equipment and annual fit testing and training for equipment is required. The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies.
Frequent travel, by State vehicle or other modes of transportation, to various locations in-State, out-of-State, or out-of-country for assignments, exercises, or meetings. Travel (including nights, weekends, and holidays) for extensive periods may be required during an emergency response. During emergency response periods, duties may require working long shifts at hours other than the normal work hours.
Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA's Telework Policy.
