Responsibilities
Assist pharmacist under direct supervision in the provision of pharmaceutical care to all patients. Performing technical tasks such as filling, compounding , reconstitution and labeling Enter patient information accurately into pharmacy computer system, including, but not limited to, patient's address, patient's phone number, patient's allergies and patient's date of birth. Enters correct medication information, including, but not limited to, medications, strength, route, number of refills and physician name. Perform calculations needed for prescription input and dispensing Correctly identify patient per protocol prior to dispensing medication. Offers patient counseling by a pharmacist prior to completing transaction. Prioritize work to fill prescriptions in order of importance. Initials Rx labels on all prescriptions. Follow department procedures for maintaining drug and supply inventory Remove expired medications, rotate stock, clean and organize assigned areas on a regular basis. Perform prescription returns and insurance reversals on a regular basis Respond to phone call inquires and walk-up service requests, resolving issues or redirecting them appropriately Properly uses department equipment including but not limited to point of sale equipment, pill counters and vendor software. Perform select assigned tasks that may include specialized or advanced training and/or competency such as facilitating prior authorizations and advanced insurance/ provider inquires Recommends/involved in implementation of efficiency or department initiatives Participation in tasks related to quality assurance monitoring, data collection and analysis

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $18.89per hour - $30.6per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. Ensures prior authorization reviews are conducted within timeframes set forth by CMS and/or NYSDOH
Establishes great rapport with Provider offices via telephonic communication
Sends request for information sheets to Providers
Ensures that patient information is shared appropriately maintaining confidentiality and compliance with federal law and HIPAA regulations

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Either nationally certified Pharmacy Technician in good standing (i.e., PTCB, NHA) or registered or licensed Pharmacy Technician in good standing

Specialty Technicians: Ensures accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into various systems; verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, days' supply, supplies, insurance, and physician data. Reviews all pertinent medical documentation from physician offices and other healthcare facilities, and clarifies prescription orders with pharmacist and/or clinician as appropriate. Responsibilities
Accurately and safely prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration. PRN Technicians are not required to complete this task
Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
Assist in developing and maintaining training materials as needed.
Assist in special projects not requiring clinical decision-making capacity as assigned by the Director.
Enter and process new prescriptions and refills. Fill medication orders in an accurate and timely manner, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacement items, unit dose cart, outpatient and take-home prescriptions.
Perform miscellaneous billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging through manual entry into the computer, or with bar code reader.
Perform miscellaneous non-sterile compounding.
Perform monthly inspection of assigned nursing units and pharmacy area for expired or otherwise unusable drugs, and provide proper storage and accurate inventory.
Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and applying proper labeling. PRN Technician's are not required to complete this task
Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions, provide pertinent laboratory information to the pharmacist when assigned. PRN Technicians are not required to complete this task
Prepare various batch IV products to support patient care needs utilizing the batch compounder as appropriate. PRN Technicians are not required to complete this task
Prepares and delivers enteral nutritional supplements to patient care areas. Maintains enteral records and billing functions.
Provide services to the Operating Room staff from the OR medication room.
Refers customers and calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
Restock and replace various trays and kits used throughout the facility.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $18.89per hour - $30.6per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The Pharmacy Extern role is designed to offer pharmacy students a variety of challenging clinical experiences over the course of their pharmacy school training. Pharmacy students are eligible to take on additional levels of clinical responsibility as they advance through school. The Pharmacy Extern will have the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in the classroom, develop clinical skills, and enhance project management, time management, and leadership skills.
