Job Summary: The Patient Care Tech I assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties for patients and staff under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As an MLT, you will: * Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. * Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. * Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. * Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. * Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. * Works alternate shifts as required. * Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy. The Dialysis Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining dialysis machines, monitoring patients during dialysis treatments, and ensuring the quality and safety of the dialysis process. The role supports the Dialysis team in providing basic nursing care and carrying out technical procedures. Under the general supervision of a section supervisor, techs in the Microbiology department are responsible for plate reading for various cultures types including, but not limited to, urines, stool, respiratories, genital, MRSA, wounds and fluids. This requires the ability to perform microscopic identification of bacteria and yeast correctly as well as the documentation of all steps within the LIS. Techs also perform rapid testing, to include PCR testing, and culture set ups on specimens during their shifts. Stocking and QC on all necessary media and test kits is performed by all techs in microbiology. Techs are expected to maintain and support all CAP and Joint Commission accreditation standards in all work practices. Phlebotomy competencies are established and maintained by all technical staff. Microbiology staff typically work between the hours of 0700-1700. Typical shifts are 0700-1530 and 0800-1630 but may vary based on departmental needs. Microbiology is staffed 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Holidays and weekends are rotated between the microbiology staff. Generalist techs are responsible for maintaining CAP defined competency in multiple departments including: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Andrology, Serology, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. Technical abilities and theoretical understanding must include the basic knowledge of the scope of practice and the laboratory. Techs are expected to competently perform the full menu of testing on blood, urine, and body fluids in accordance to CAP standards, following departmental polices, once training is completed. Testing and Quality Control performance includes, but is not limited to, rapid tests, cell differentials, automated Chemistry testing, blood gases, body fluid cell counts, automated and manual urine microscopy, blood typing, antibody screens, unit compatibility crossmatches, setting specimens for bacterial culture, rapid PCR testing, processing specimens for in house and reference testing. Techs are expected to maintain and support all CAP and Joint Commission accreditation standards in all work practices. Participation in the Lab Proficiency Testing submission is required by all testing personnel. Experience utilizing LIS for resulting patient specimens and documentation of results. Ability to multitask and prioritize patient testing in a dynamic work environment. Phlebotomy competencies are established and maintained by all technical staff. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As an MLT, you will: * Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. * Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. * Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. * Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. * Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. * Works alternate shifts as required. * Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy. The Operative Clinical Technician supports the nurse in the Operating Room in medical procedures for pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Working under close supervision, this role ensures that the Operating Room is clean and safe in line with hospital and Infection Control guidelines. Essential Job Function * Ensures that the Operating Room is clean and safe in accordance with the hospital and Infection Control guidelines in order to provide a sterile environment. * Prepares rooms for new patients as directed by the nurse to provide sufficient room availability for upcoming surgeries. * Relocates Operating Room equipment to various locations in the hospital so that nurses are provided with all necessary sterile equipment for surgery. * Provides care for patients under the supervision of the nurse in order to organize patient care plans and treatments. * Monitors supply levels of necessary items like linens to provide a comfortable environment for patients. * Handles the responses to requests for the transportation of specimens, patients, and labs in order to connect the proper resources with patient needs. * Performs other duties as assigned.
