The Head of Automation & Carpentry is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Automation & Carpentry Departments, including overseeing the crew show running positions and managing the physical/technical elements of the automation and rigging systems. The Head of Automation & Carpentry oversees all technical and safety aspects of these departments, including the construction, repair, purchase and maintenance of all automation, rigging, and scenic elements. The Head of Automation & Carpentry participates in the hiring, training, corrective action, termination, evaluation, performance development and scheduling of all members of the departments. Strong people management skills, the ability to collaborate with multiple departments and senior management, and experience in a variety of technical disciplines are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Ensure that Blue Man Group values and artistic vision are understood and supported across the organization; · Manage the Automation & Carpentry Departments for BMG Orlando; · Create the departments' show schedule; ensure coverage and maintenance for all shows by coordinating show and work schedules; · Manage the training of all members of the Automation & Carpentry Departments and provide ongoing training for members of the department to ensure consistency and sustained employee engagement with the show and the organization; · Maintain knowledge and training to operate, repair, and/or identify problems with all automation and rigging elements, including but not limited to electrical systems, pneumatics systems, electrical circuitry and Stage Technologies Automation Control Systems; · Clearly communicate notes and/or changes to the show to all members of the Automation & Carpentry Departments, local and Blue Man Productions (BMP) Artistic Direction, other technical departments, Production Manager and Stage Management Department as required; · Supervise the ordering and organization of all shop supplies/inventories; · Keep track of vendors and contact numbers and forge positive, collaborative relationships with suppliers; · Collaborate with the Production Manager to create and maintain the department budget in accordance with procedures outlined by General Management; · Oversee department payroll; · Organize and lead Automation & Carpentry Department meetings; · Oversee Automation & Carpentry show running tracks, ensuring crew run sheets (including preset, show cues, turnover, and post-show) are updated regularly in collaboration with Stage Management; · Ensure that show operations are performed in a safe, professional, timely and efficient manner; · Maintain current knowledge of show tracks and be able to run departmental tracks in an emergency; · Maintain and oversee all technical elements of the show under the Automation & Carpentry Departments jurisdiction; · Execute or ensure general repair, construction, maintenance, and/or restock of all automation/rigging and carpentry/scenic supplies as needed; · Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise; · Adhere to safety rules and regulations for locality; · Ensure Automation/Rigging & Carpentry Crew coverage and execute duties for all local Blue Man events as requested.
