JOB SUMMARY
The Journey Carpenter plays a key role in fulfilling the district's construction and maintenance projects safely, within budget, and within established time frames. This role involves performing construction and carpentry activities within the schools to meet operational needs, executing necessary carpentry repairs or replacements to ensure optimal functionality. The Journey Carpenter will also provide guidance and training on proper usage and maintenance of carpentry features to both staff and end-users. This position requires that all work be completed in compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and manufacturer specifications. To be successful in this role, the Journey Carpenter must have strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a technical training education/apprenticeship program in carpentry or a related field, or five (5) years of full-time job-related experience
Experience and ability to use carpentry equipment, hand tools, and power tools
Experience interpreting schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans, and other specifications
Utah driver's license and evidence of insurability
Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and experience using data-based software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) or more years of job-related experience

Utah Construction Trades Licensure

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Fabricate items (counters, temporary partitions, etc.) to modify and adapt facilities to specific needs; measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials using hand tools, machines, and power saws
Install system component parts, playground, classroom, office equipment, doors, trim, and other facility components to maintain facilities in safe, comfortable, and effective operating conditions
Remodel office and workspace features (site surfaces, cabinets, storage systems, etc.), including building and repairing cabinetry, frameworks, floors, and other fixtures to ensure safe and efficient utilization of space
Repair various items, systems, and components (furniture, cabinets, floor tile, laminates, ceiling tile, etc.), to ensure that spaces are available for use and in a safe working condition
Set up scaffolding and use ladders safely to perform tasks above ground level
Move furniture and other materials at jobsites to protect from damage during project work; clean worksite debris and return worksites to operational order
Maintain tools and equipment to ensure that equipment is available and in a safe operating condition
Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, reports, inventory orders, etc., to convey information and provide written support of work activities
Request equipment and supplies to maintain needed inventory and ensure availability of required items
Coordinate and communicate effectively with building administrators, custodians, and other trades to complete projects and work orders in an efficient and timely manner
Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
Transport a variety of items (tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) to ensure the availability of needed materials and equipment at job sites
Perform routine maintenance and safety checks to ensure that items are available and in safe working condition
Complete work in accordance with federal, state, and local codes, manufacturer's recommendations, and generally accepted carpentry principles
Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees, colleagues, and stakeholders
Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required to perform job functions
Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
Support a team environment by collaborating with one's own and other work units to effectively perform job duties
Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required

This positions pay range is $26.00 - $29.00/hr, depending on experience and training.
This position qualifies for the Sign-On Incentive and Bi-Annual Retention Incentive for new employees who fill positions that have been hard to fill and will be working within HQF Facility Maintenance.
The retention incentive will be contingent upon the employee's continued employment with the HQF Facilities Maintenance Team during the specified period.
For the new hire to receive the retention incentive, they must meet performance expectations throughout the program, determined by their manager during 1:1s and evaluations. Final decision will be approved by the Facilities Maintenance Manager, upon approval, Human Resources department will initiate the necessary steps to disburse the incentive in a timely and efficient manner.
