Monitors medication stock levels and advises appropriate pharmacy staff of depletion or low levels of critical medications and supplies.
Adheres to all necessary State, Federal (USP) sterility requirements in preparation of sterile products.
Delivers medications in a timely manner, placing patient needs first.
Utilizes pharmacy computer program / software to generate labels, post charges and issue credits, run reports, and enter patient specific information.
Complies with all department, State and Federal requirements for completing appropriate online and paper records and reports for historical and auditing purposes.
Serves as a back-up for other areas within the unit or department, especially during times of special needs or staff absences.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
Occupational Hazards: Potential for exposure to infectious patients and materials, though rare. Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions. Potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp, potentially contaminated items. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.

Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customer to OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.
Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
Assists and supports Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required; assists pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.
Assists with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance.
Complies with all company policies and procedures; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state required certification/registration. Otherwise, earns PTCB certification as condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attends training requested by Manager and acquires continuing education credits. Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
Requires willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prefer to have prior work experience with Walgreens.
Prefer good math skills so they can fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring and weighing medications.
Prefer good computer skills.
Prefer the knowledge of store inventory control.
Prefer PTCB certification.

* Assist the pharmacist in obtaining accurate verbal orders for product replacement and missing prescription information from healthcare providers.
* Manage patient adherence processes and schedule medication deliveries according to Pharmacy Solutions guidelines.
* Aid patients with treatment compliance by updating current medications, allergies, and medical conditions, and triaging calls to Nursing and/or Pharmacists when necessary.
* Utilize internal and web tools to communicate with health insurance payors and providers to investigate benefits and verify prescription coverage.
* Identify and recommend process and system improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity in pharmacy operations.
* Interact professionally with internal and external teams to ensure accurate service provision to patients.
* Collaborate with necessary personnel to support changing business priorities by executing or overseeing tasks that support patients, products, or services.
* Maintain current Illinois Certified Pharmacy Technician licensure and meet CE requirements as necessary.
Essential Skills
* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Specialty Pharmacy or Retail/Mail Order Pharmacy, PBM, or healthcare provider setting.
* Familiarity with medical record handling/documentation and prescription data entry.
* Strong customer service and inter-professional communication skills.
* Core insurance knowledge including medical and pharmacy benefits.
* Experience with online verification systems is preferred.
* Certified Pharmacy Technician license in the state of Illinois.
* Strong attention to detail and decision-making abilities.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to manage time effectively and adhere to deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* Flexibility to work between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
* Experience in retail pharmacy settings.
Work Environment
This position is located at a facility with a pharmacy space onsite at the North Chicago headquarters. The role requires a flexible schedule and offers the possibility of contract extension every six months.
