What You'll Be Doing YOU will be responsible for learning and demonstrating proficiency in a broad range of subjects including, but not limited to, firefighting, emergency medical services, technical rescue, incident command system, and hazardous materials. The purpose of the class is to be responsible for learning and demonstrating proficiency in a broad range of subjects including, but not limited to, firefighting, emergency medical services, technical rescue, incident command system, and hazardous materials. The class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Minimum Requirements * Requires high school graduation or successful completion of GED. * Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application. * When required, must successfully complete: HRFA or other Division-approved fire academy; and become certified, at a minimum, to the level of Virginia Advanced EMT (EMT-Intermediate or paramedic preferred); the Basic Life Support Attendant-In-Charge (BLS AIC) program and Advanced Life Support Field Training Program (ALSFTP) for Advanced EMT providers; Hazardous Materials-Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC), and Driver/Pump Operator (DPO) course; FEMA IS 100, 200, 700, and 800; and all minimum requirements as set forth by the Fire Division or as required by other organizations that impose requirements by rule, law, or ordinance * Must obtain, at a minimum, Virginia Advanced EMT; Basic Life Support Attendant-in-Charge (BLS AIC) and Advanced Life Support Field Training Program (ALSFTP) for Advanced EMT providers; Must recertify required VAOEMS certification at required intervals. Must complete and maintain bi-annual CPR and ACLS (when required) certifications; * When required, must complete HRFA or another Division-approved fire academy, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Awareness, and HAZMAT Operations. * Working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Command System (ICS), and completion of NIMS ICS-100, ICS 200, IS-700 and IS-800 when required; * Must meet the required medical standards provided by the City by a licensed physician. * Must successfully complete the required Fire Division application process; successfully complete the Fire Division's physical agility test; pass a character background investigation and a polygraph examination. * Must meet all minimum requirements as set forth by the Fire Division or as required by other organizations that impose requirements by rule, law, or ordinance. not have any physical defects which would render the incumbent unfit to perform all the duties of a firefighter/emergency medical technician. * Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. * Must obtain Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification and complete any additional driver training requirements set forth by the City of Hampton. During their probationary period, they shall complete an ALS internship to become FCFRD-authorized ALS providers. The FCFRD also provides continuing education to personnel with paramedic certification during and following the probationary period. Following successful completion of ALS internship, paramedics are eligible for ALS incentive pay ($6,948) and additional ALS riding pay of $2-3/hour depending on apparatus assigned.
