This position may be required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the public and the continuity of City operations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of this position. * For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). * Performs other duties as required. Your responsibilities will include: Performing skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and road repair work; assisting in resurfacing, oiling, patching, sweeping, grading and shaping roads; digging and filling holes; clearing and repairing roadway, shoulders and adjoining areas; installing, cleaning, repairing and maintaining sewers, water pipes and hydrants; clearing trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, grounds and facilities. Operating a wide range of specialized vehicles and motorized equipment, including front-end loader, dump truck, bulldozer, grader, backhoe, tractor, street sweeper, oil distributor, spreader, scraper, roller, chipper, and water truck. Inspecting, cleaning and performing routine maintenance work on trucks and heavy equipment; identifying and reporting mechanical problems requiring additional repair. Operating power equipment and specialized trucks to transport trash, debris and biosolids. Hauling materials and transporting vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks. Loading and unloading materials using power equipment. Completing required daily logs and reports. Performing tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies; performing traffic control activities as needed; reporting safety hazards and traffic problems. Utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm (30 minute lunch); overtime is required. This is an on-call position. Regular and timely attendance is required. Requirements and skills: Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment. Using specialized tools and heavy motorized equipment to perform maintenance and repair work. Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures. Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Three years' experience operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid eligible Texas Class A Commercial Driver License with a good driving record (additional compensation available for CDL A of $300/month); specific technical skills training and certifications may be required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors.
