The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Utility Maintenance Worker to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Utilities - Distribution and Collections Construction division. The Utility Maintenance Worker earns a competitive salary of $18.86- $20.41/based on experience and qualifications. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A UTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER
The Utility Maintenance Worker that will perform a variety of manual tasks associated with the construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater connection facilities as assigned. Work on construction projects, usually in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision.
Essential Functions:
Install valves, water lines, and manholes; sewer pipes with appropriate fillings and tees.
Repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and meters.
Assist in measuring distances from grade stakes.
Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Gather and organize materials to be transported; load pipe, manhole, and various other materials onto truck for delivery to job site.
Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections.
Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
Mop, brush, or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
Apply caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
Grind, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, steel, and plastic.
Saw lumber, dismantle forms, remove projections from concrete, mount pipe hangers, and dig out and clean around pipes.
Check stock in yard for job assignments and for up-coming jobs.
Perform maintenance on machines, trucks, etc., ensuring that equipment is greased, washed and cleaned, and oil is changed.
Pick up around job site ensuring that used parts and materials are not left, and that ground is leveled back to grade and sod is replaced.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License
Class I Wastewater Certificate, preferred, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.

* Operate and maintain hand and pneumatic tools, including jackhammers, gasoline tampers, hacksaws, tapping machines, boring machines, hydraulic jacks, cement mixers, compressors, and sewer jetting machines.
* Drive and operate heavy equipment and vehicles such as front-end loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, combination vacuum and jetting machines, track vehicles, and cherry pickers.
Safety & Compliance

Work involves exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, confined spaces, trenches, road traffic, noise, fumes, odors, water, mud, dirt, and dust. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

* Must obtain a Class D Water License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within one (1) year of employment
* Familiarity with workplace safety practices, procedures, and use of PPE.

* Previous public works, maintenance, or construction experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing water and wastewater systems.

The purpose of this position is to facilitate continuing water and sewer services to the City by providing skilled services. This is accomplished by installing and maintaining water and sewer utilities. The Utility Maintenance Worker that will perform a variety of manual tasks associated with the construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater connection facilities as assigned. Work on construction projects, usually in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision.
Essential Functions:
* Install valves, water lines, and manholes; sewer pipes with appropriate fillings and tees.

* Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
