Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair.
Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes.
Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals.
Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws.
Cleans & maintains tools and equipment.
Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure.
Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment.
Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices.
Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.

DESCRIPTION
The PLC Technician is responsible for the programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) utilized in water and sewer infrastructure. This position requires advanced expertise in PLC systems to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our water and sewer operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical education in electrical engineering, automation, industrial electronics, or a related field is required.
Minimum 8 years of experience with PLC systems and related SCADA or computer applications in municipal water and wastewater utility environments required.
Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and work outside of regular business hours when necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of and proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagrams) and software (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).

Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on PLC hardware and software to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshoot PLC malfunctions, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
Utilize diagnostic tools and software to analyze PLC performance data and identify opportunities for improvement.
Develop and update PLC documentation, including wiring diagrams, ladder logic programs, and operating manuals.
Provide technical support and training to department staff on PLC operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in PLC technology to recommend upgrades and enhancements as needed.

Under direct supervision, performs repairs of all water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, water mains, water services, water taps, fire hydrants, valves, sewer mains, sewer services, manholes, and clean outs.
