Patient Financial Advocates help patients navigate financial responsibilities without insurance or insurance not accepted at Cleveland Clinic. In this position, you will prepare estimated costs of services, request deposits for half of the estimated cost of services and discuss with patients whether they are eligible for the government of Cleveland Clinic Financial Assistance Programs. Your efforts can positively impact the lives of patients and their families in numerous ways, offering a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in your community and beyond.
A caregiver in this position works remotely from 11:30 a.m. -- 8:00 p.m.
Candidates must reside in Ohio to be considered for this role.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Counsel patients and parties responsible for payment regarding payment responsibilities and options.
* Counsel patients regarding insurance benefits and recommend alternative sources of payment and financial assistance.
* Explain financial responsibilities for services received, payment options and collection procedures to patients and/or parties responsible for payment.
* Contact insurance carriers or other sources and act as an advocate for patients.
* Initiate the process for collecting prepayments due and performing follow-up to ensure maximum collection is achieved.
* Identify and resolve issues related to registration, financial clearance, insurance company authorization requirements, billing, insurance company explanation of benefits, provider-based billing, governmental requirements, HCAP/FAP policies and restrictions, MyAccount and collections.
* Update and correctly document in the appropriate computer system.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* High School Diploma/GED and three years of experience in a customer facing role with in-person or phone contact
* OR Associate's Degree and two years of experience
* OR Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Completes vital signs, specimen testing and EKGs as needed.

As a Patient Access Representative, you are responsible for registering, scheduling and preregistering patients for inpatient, emergency and outpatient tests and procedures, educating patients regarding their benefit levels, and collecting and recording payments prior to, or at the time of, service. You will work face-to-face with diverse populations of patients to ensure a seamless model of access for patients, physicians and family members and leave a positive, lasting impression.
A caregiver in this role works nights| 10:00pm-6:00am| four days one week, three days the next| rotating weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Provide a comprehensive set of business and financial related services during the patient access process on the day the patient arrives at the facility to receive service.
* Perform registrations by completing an accurate face to face interview to obtain demographic, insurance, medical and financial information.
* Crosstrain staff in all areas of Patient Access at any facility, including but not limited to, Front Desk, Admitting Office, ED and Cashier.
* Maintain productivity and quality standards.
* Function as a Super User.
* Work on a workstation on wheels (mobile workstation).
* Act as a resource for training new team members and during the implementation of new processes.
* Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer service facing role OR an associate's degree and one year of experience OR a bachelor's degree
* Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
* Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Three or more years of customer service experience
