South Bronx United (SBU) is seeking energetic individuals with a passion for youth development and soccer to join our team of SBU Coach-Mentors. In the position, the individual will serve as a mentor and Head Soccer Coach for a travel team of boys or girls within the SBU Academy Program. As a mentor, the individual serves as the first point of contact for any issues regarding SBU student athletes on the team and as a positive influence promoting education, character, and community. This is a part time position from September to June requiring approximately 8-12 hours/week during the fall and spring seasons. Hours will decrease during the winter off-season (January-February) to 4-6 hours/week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve as a Mentor for a team of approximately 20 youth (mentees):
โ Serve as first point of staff level contact for the mentees.
โ Help plan, set, and keep students on their program schedule.
โ Maintain weekly contact with each mentee in person and via phone.
โ Maintain regular contact with mentees' parent/guardian.
โ Help SBU Education Director monitor student academic performance and assist
in the collection of student report cards, transcripts, and school documents.
โ Work with SBU Youth Counselor and Education Director to identify social,
emotional, and academic issues or concerns.
โ Check email daily and maintain good communication with SBU office staff
โ Hold a weekly call with SBU office staff to discuss progress of each

2. Serve as Head Coach a travel youth soccer team

โ Attend coach training sessions and coach meetings

SCHEDULE

The Flag Football Coach will join our Promise Academy athletic program team, which exposes students to a variety of fun-filled, developmental, and high-caliber enrichment activities, including football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer, as well as health/wellness and physical fitness education. The ideal candidate will develop all aspects of a high-quality flag football athletics program and provide scholars with effective leadership.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
High School or Equivalent or better.

Experience working with youth and adolescent population
College degree and at least two years of coaching experience, preferred
Must have strong knowledge and a keen understanding of football
Ensure the various athletics curriculums are structured and have clear learning goals
Solid understanding of youth sports and safety guidelines
Must be able to travel to away games or events
Must have strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent writing and communication skills
Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and approachable attitude
Ability to effectively engage and motivate students
What you'll do
Develop, implement, and execute the flag football athletics curriculum
Create a program that will include daily conditioning, fundamental drills, and a strategic playbook
Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and playing field
Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in various athletic activities and schoolwork
Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director
Develop positive relationships with students that promotes wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem
Act as a positive role model for students
Perform other duties as assigned
