GROUNDS MAINTENANCE II Location: Various
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, you are responsible for the following: Maintaining the common grounds athletic facilities at Kingston Stadium and all Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) grounds. Repair and maintain fences, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and other surroundings. Ability to operate large equipment such as trucks, tractors, tractor gang mowers, skid steer, frontend loader, and other equipment. Remove snow from sidewalks, playgrounds, parking lots, and drives. Mow the grounds and maintain the sites including bush and tree trimming and/or removal. Maintain the grounds vehicles and equipment--tractors, mowers, and others--daily and annually. Provide active communication and positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.
CLASSIFICATION: Category "C" of the salary schedule, $21.59/hour.

QUALIFICATION:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge; skill and/or ability required but are not all-inclusive. Successful applicant must have or obtain within three (3) months of appointment State of Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship certification for core manual and herbicide application in Category #6 Right of Way. Must have, or obtain, a Commercial Drivers License Type B permit with air brake endorsement within three (3) weeks of appointment. Must be able to obtain Commercial Drivers License Type B with air brake endorsement licence within 90 days after permit. A driving record satisfactory to the District and the District's insurance carrier. Must pass pre-employment commercial drivers license drug test.
Must be in excellent physical condition. Must be able to pass the Physical Capacity Profile tests. Must be willing and able to work in adverse and winter weather conditions.

What you'll do:
* Perform routine maintenance such as painting, drywall repair, changing filters, preventative maintenance on equipment, and furniture moving/set up.
* Assist with maintaining physical plant such as responsible for maintaining the buildings and related equipment in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
* Perform general construction assignments including, carpentry, woodworking, drywall installation and repair, landscape building and repair, and other associated tasks.
* Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as power tools, snow removal equipment, shop equipment, scissor lifts, forklifts, test equipment, etc.
* Assists grounds crew with snow removal and responses to emergency situations as needed.
* The Director and Assistant Director of Facilities Management require all employees to be available to meet the needs of university operations. Employees may be asked to assist with construction projects, mowing, grounds, snow removal, moving furniture, or cleaning as necessary.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to work with others and to provide leadership and supervision of personnel.
Assist Facilities Director with personnel management functions (e.g., interviewing, selecting, evaluating, supervising, training) to maintain adequate staffing, enhance productivity of personnel, and achieve objectives within budget.
To monitor and regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
To support all board and administrative policies and procedures of the school district at all times.
To check daily to ensure that all exit doors and all panic bars are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
To ensure that weekend building checks are being performed by custodial staff.
To ensure the grounds of all district facilities are cleared of debris and look presentable before and after activities.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as trained and assigned to do, including but not limited to repairs in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.
Maintain records of monthly inspections of exit and emergency lighting, and eye wash stations.
Maintain yearly records of Asbestos, MSDS and fire-retardant records.
Change and maintain records of filters on all heating and cooling units.
To respond as needed to emergency drills, learn the fire alarm system, and be able to operate the system as needed. Immediately report any problems concerning the alarm systems, extinguishers, and pull stations.
Research new products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, and maintaining District services.
Maintain adequate cleaning supply inventory but avoids excess stock.
Assure ALL District entrance doors, exits and sidewalks are clear of snow and ice at all times.
Assign staff to appropriate projects during times when school is not in session following direction of the Facilities Director and/or designee.
Plan, organize and direct a variety of programs, projects, and activities related to the maintenance and repair of district facilities, grounds and associated equipment; effectively allocate resources to various projects.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, District Procedures and various code requirements.

Spend time at both campuses to ensure the day to day functions are properly taken care of following the direction of the Facilities Director.

To supervise the preparation and distribution of bid packages for work and/or services required to support the custodial and maintenance programs. To assist in administering school construction, including alterations and additions to existing buildings when assigned by the superintendent.

To be responsible for implementing the chemical Right-To-Know regulations in the area of primary responsibility. Coordinate with principals and staff regarding the chemical right-to-know regulations in other areas of the district's operations. Update and maintain all MSDS records and reporting.
To inspect the school buildings with the Fire Marshall, the Insurance Loss Control Inspectors, or other officials as requested or required. To act as the District's risk manager, coordinating property or liability insurance claims with the School Business Official and insurance carrier.
To supplement the custodial staff by adding additional labor for projects requiring more than two people and covering custodial work needed when personnel are absent.
To collect and be responsible for safely storing all existing blueprints and project manuals for the District's assets.
To adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, board policies, and administrative rules.
To cooperate with the Activities Director to prepare playing fields, courts, grounds, and other necessary facilities for athletic and other school activities.
Attend graduation, homecoming (until dance begins), and other activities as the superintendent assigns.
Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director and/or Superintendent to meet the needs of the district.
