We are seeking a Law Student Intern for Summer 2026 and the '26-'27 academic year to join our Wrongful Conviction Project (WCP). We are seeking energetic, team-oriented individuals who demonstrate a commitment to reforming our criminal legal system and a dedication to aiding individuals wrongfully convicted in Ohio. Under the supervision of WCP staff, you will review cases of unrepresented individuals incarcerated in Ohio who advance claims of wrongful conviction. You will work with incarcerated individuals whose cases are reviewed by the Project, providing substantial case analysis, research and investigation and intensive document review to inform future litigation with the goal of exoneration.
Intake & Prison Legal Services
The Intake and Prison Legal Services department is seeking a motivated current 2L or 3L student with a legal intern certificate who has demonstrated a commitment to public defense work and social justice and who is interested in working with people who are currently incarcerated. Your job duties would include reviewing discovery material for parole and post-release control violation hearings, contacting relevant witnesses and gathering relevant evidence, observing panel or full board hearings for clients seeking release after decades in prison, conducting legal research for violation hearing defenses and in response letters or calls from incarcerated people and their loved ones. Under the supervision of a licensed attorney represent clients at post-release control hearings, conduct client interviews, engage in factual investigations, and review case material and analyze pending cases. Participate in department meetings, moot courts, roundtables, and agency-wide meetings.
As a Law Student Intern with OPD, your duties include but are not limited to:
- Conduct legal research on defined or potential issues in cases & present this information orally and through writing
- Draft legal arguments to use in motions and other pleadings
- Conduct factual investigations, review, and analysis of pending cases
- Accompany staff attorneys to client visits, oral arguments, or other proceedings

What You'll Do: The IT Audit Intern position is a learning-focused opportunity designed to provide hands-on experience in operational and information technology audits, internal control assessments, and audit analytics within a statewide environment. Under supervision in the Engineering Section, student will receive training in PC based and mainframe CADD systems (i.e. MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer); as well as, various software packages used by the District. Collect and reviews roadway, culvert, and bridge field data required for the preparation of highway construction plans. Assists project manager or designer with the design, development, and review of various portions of highway construction plans. Assists project surveyor on projects, receives training in the operation and maintenance of survey instruments (e.g. total stations, GPS receivers, digital levels, 3-D laser scanners and data collectors) and survey applications, to, complete highway survey projects. Assists project surveyor with gathering of necessary field supplies and equipment and takes notes and records of survey data obtained. Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit (e.g. researches plans and records; assists with necessary record keeping; maintains accurate data of work performed; organizes materials and compiles information to assist in report preparation; attends training).
Under supervision in the Construction Section, student will receive training in proper procedures for inspection of work being done by contractors (e.g. widening and resurfacing projects, safety upgrading, signing, guardrail, intersections, drainage facilities, forms and reinforcing steel, concrete placement on structures, flexible and rigid pavement). Assists project engineer in the inspection of bituminous plants, performs test on concrete and soils, and in any required surveying to verify field measurements. Performs support functions in record keeping, maintains accurate data of work performed, organizes materials, and compiles information to assist in report preparation.
Under supervision in the Environmental Section, assists the Environmental staff with projects & documentation by utilizing the computer & related software (e.g., internet, web pages for ODOT, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); ELLIS, Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook) to research information (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Environmental Justice Maps, Categorical Exclusions, upcoming projects, submerged land leases, lake lines, city limits), to pull maps, generate reports, create lists (e.g., public involvement requirements, mussel stream) & data bases (e.g., permits, flood plain).
MUST BE ENROLLED IN A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY PROGRAM AND IN GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING. (Civil Engineering)
Must show proof of valid driver's license to operate state vehicle.
