You'll accomplish this by reviewing facility installation applications, flow analysis, and design plans to ensure they are following engineering best practices and meeting state and federal regulations. You'll draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for facilities that include appropriate effluent limitations and monitoring requirements. To verify facilities are running properly, you'll assess their required operation and maintenance reports and inspect sites to verify permit compliance. As needed, you'll coordinate collection of discharge samples and data related to plant performance. You'll respond to and investigate public complaints of violations and issue enforcement actions as necessary to address identified violations and non-compliance issues. As a subject matter expert, you will advise public officials, industry representatives, consultants, and the public on federal and state regulations and requirements for wastewater treatment facilities.
