We're the only private practice in Connecticut with all specialties of dentistry under one roof. Our cutting-edge digital lab and extended hours ensure efficiency and convenience without compromising quality. Our advanced software network connects all locations for data sharing, making transitions seamless for both patients and providers.
We are seeking a full-time/part-time Hygienist for our locations of New London, Waterbury, Bristol and New Haven. Availability to work after hours and over the weekends in our Manchester location. Hourly Rate - $45-$55, depending on candidate's innovative approach to industry. Benefits for full-time candidates include 401k, medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD.
The Dental Hygienist will clean teeth and examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. The position also educates patients on oral hygiene, takes and develops x-rays, and applies fluoride or sealants.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform dental hygiene services and procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride and sealants, and root planning
Complete a thorough assessment of the patient's teeth, bone, and periodontal tissues, and document any abnormalities or suspected conditions
Customize care to meet patient's oral health
Responsible for period charting, updating clinical notes of patients, and taking x-rays as needed
Educate patients on good oral hygiene techniques
Aid the dentist with procedures and emergencies as needed
Maintain patient confidentiality
Provide all care in conjunction with accepted professional dental practices and standards
Follow COVID-19 protocols, including wearing a face mask while at work, washing hands regularly, and keeping frequently touched areas clean
Travel to other Columbia Dental locations to provide coverage when requested by the Manager
Other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
Detail oriented
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Experience working in a dental office is a plus
Willingness to learn and grow
Excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks
Proven dedication in providing high-quality, comprehensive dental care
Ability to comply with safety procedures, rules, and regulations in order to maintain a clean and safe working environment
Strong working knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and practices
Reliable and flexible
Self-motivated with the ability to exceed patient expectations
Excellent customer service and computer skills
Education & Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene
Registered Dental Hygienist licensure in state of practice
Current CPR certification is strongly preferred
1-2 years of experience working in a dental practice is strongly preferred
Must be a Certified Dental Technician (CDT)
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of standing, leaning, and bending as needed
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, keyboard, copier, telephone, and the ability to write/type
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds occasionally

Educate patients on oral hygiene in clinic and school-based programs
Assist in patient infection control program, sterilize instruments/equipment
May assist in Orthodontics including obtaining patient records, bite registrations, patient models, fabricating orthodontic retainers, and placing/removing ligature ties
May perform Lead duties by maintaining the daily flow of the department and acting as a liaison between line staff and the direct supervisor. Manage breaks, lunches, sick calls, and overtime. Provide insights to leaders regarding the skill level and performance of the employees. Responsible for providing training to new employees and existing staff when needed.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
BLS certification within 90 days
Dental Assistant Registration or EFDA certification
NOTE: Dental Assistants who have not received their Dental Assistant registration from the State of Washington will not be allowed to perform the Essential Functions of the job until it is received. Prior to this time, a Dental Assistant will be allowed to observe patient care and assist with paperwork and receptionist roles only.

What You'll Do:
Maintains patient medical records, updating patient medical history and vital signs as needed.
Conducts complete patient X-ray procedure including panoramic and cephalometric radiographs, and intra oral photographs.
Sets up and records periodontal charting per Provider's instruction.
Prepares and sets up instruments and equipment necessary for the patient exam performed by the Provider.
Mixes materials needed for the exam with awareness of infection control and cross contamination.
Performs preventative periodontal care on patients including the application of coronal polish, fluoride treatments, silver diamine fluoride and sealants.
Starts and monitors nitrous oxide analgesia as necessary under the direct supervision of the Provider.
Provides education and counsel in oral hygiene for patients in the clinic and Mobile Unit school-based programs.
Assists in implementing and monitoring the patient infection control program for the clinic, including ensuring the integrity of sterile packaging, sterilizing instruments/equipment, and cleaning autoclaves and operatories.
Restorative Procedures: Under the direct supervision of a dentist, direct restoration may be placed, carved, and finalized to include amalgam and composite materials.
Dental Impressions: Under direct supervision of a dentist, takes accurate final impressions for the fabrication of crown and bridge, removable and permanent dental prosthetics.
Temporary Restorations: Place and remove temporary dental restorations as required during treatment procedures condition.
May assist in Orthodontics including obtaining patient records, bite registrations, patient models, fabricating orthodontic retainers, and placing/removing ligature ties.
May perform Lead duties by maintaining the daily flow of the department and acting as a liaison between line staff and the direct supervisor. Manages breaks, lunches, sick calls, and overtime. Provides insights to leader regarding the skill level and performance of the employees. Responsible for providing training to new employees and existing staff when needed.
Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.

As a Dental Assistant, you will have the opportunity to:
Maintain medical records and vital signs
Conduct complete X-ray procedures and set up for exams
Record periodontal data, perform periodontal care, and administer nitrous oxide
Educate on oral hygiene, assist with infection control, may help with orthodontics, along with other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
BLS certification
Surgical Technologist Registration if assisting a Dentist in the operating room
Dental Assistant Registration or EFDA certification. Dental Assistants who have not received their Dental Assistant registration from the State of Washington will not be allowed to perform the Essential Functions of the job until it is received. Prior to this time, a Dental Assistant will be allowed to observe patient care and assist with paperwork and receptionist roles only.
Dental Assistant Registration must be completed within 7 days of hire unless specifically approved by the Clinic Administrator.

What You'll Do:

What You'll Do:
Maintains patient medical records, updating patient medical history and vital signs as needed.
Conducts complete patient X-ray procedure including panoramic and cephalometric radiographs, and intra oral photographs.
Sets up and records periodontal charting per Provider's instruction.
Prepares and sets up instruments and equipment necessary for the patient exam performed by the Provider.
Mixes materials needed for the exam with awareness of infection control and cross contamination.
Performs preventative periodontal care on patients including the application of coronal polish, fluoride treatments, silver diamine fluoride and sealants.
Starts and monitors nitrous oxide analgesia as necessary under the direct supervision of the Provider.
Provides education and counsel in oral hygiene for patients in the clinic and Mobile Unit school-based programs.
Assists in implementing and monitoring the patient infection control program for the clinic, including ensuring the integrity of sterile packaging, sterilizing instruments/equipment, and cleaning autoclaves and operatories.
Restorative Procedures: Under the direct supervision of a dentist, direct restoration may be placed, carved, and finalized to include amalgam and composite materials.
Dental Impressions: Under direct supervision of a dentist, takes accurate final impressions for the fabrication of crown and bridge, removable and permanent dental prosthetics.
Temporary Restorations: Place and remove temporary dental restorations as required during treatment procedures condition.
May assist in Orthodontics including obtaining patient records, bite registrations, patient models, fabricating orthodontic retainers, and placing/removing ligature ties.
May perform Lead duties by maintaining the daily flow of the department and acting as a liaison between line staff and the direct supervisor. Manages breaks, lunches, sick calls, and overtime. Provides insights to leader regarding the skill level and performance of the employees. Responsible for providing training to new employees and existing staff when needed.
Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.

Position Highlights:
$21.23-$31.26/hour DOE + 8% Differential
4% additional differential for your bilingual skills
$5,000.00 Hiring/Retention Bonus Structure:
At Hire: $1,500.00
At 180 days (6 months): $2,000.00

What You'll Do:
Maintains patient medical records, updating patient medical history, current status including vital signs, medical treatments and medication provided.
Reviews and updates patient immunization records.
Prepares for patient visits. Reviews the patient file, including requests for labs, referrals and correspondence. Verifies and ensures necessary reports are present.
Provides updates to Provider team as needed.
Collaborates with Providers to ensure efficiency of schedules and continuity of care. Discusses patients scheduled for the day including pre-visit prep.
Provides limited education and/or coaching for patients within scope. This includes discharge information and/or responding to follow-up questions.
Instructs patients about medication and possible allergic reactions.
Responds to patients' questions and concerns before, during and after home visit. If the question is outside of scope, directs inquiries to appropriate person.
Assists Provider during virtual visit.
Anticipates Providers' needs and manages Providers' requests.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens. Completes screenings. Collects and reviews patient data per protocol.
Follows up on test results as directed by healthcare Providers. Documents specimens collected and results in electronic medical record (EMR).
Prepares and administers medication as directed by a physician.
Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education is required.
Graduation from a medical assisting training program (may be a one-year certificate/diploma program or a two-year Associate Degree program) that is accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This training program must be comprised of at least 720 hours of medical assistant training, including at least 160 hours in a clinical externship.
Experience with a Home Visiting Program preferred.
Two years' experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Certifications must be maintained and remain current.
Must have Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant interim certification from the WA State Department of Health.
Valid Driver's License and proof of automobile liability insurance coverage.
Skills:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 10 on the language proficiency scale to receive bilingual differential pay.
Medical knowledge to understand the theories, reasons and technical aspects of medicine.
Comfortable using telehealth technology to facilitate video consultations with providers.
Ability to provide compassionate care and support to patients in their homes.
Strong people skills to handle different personalities, backgrounds and personal situations. Experience managing potentially challenging home environments and addressing patient concerns with professionalism.
Strong multi-tasking ability to handle the variety and pace of work. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple appointments and ensure timely visits.
Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic and EMR.
