About the Role
The Senior Healthcare Actuary will be responsible for developing and monitoring risk and rating assumptions and will lead required state and federal documentation pertaining to actuarial assumptions used in pricing of the products. The Senior Healthcare Actuary will provide management with analyses, reporting and recommendations on product performance. Other responsibilities include calculation/review of reserves and forecasting/trend analysis.
To be successful in this role, you:
* Have a Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics or Mathematics.
* Have a current Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) credential.
* Have a minimum of eight (8) years working as Healthcare Actuary preferably at or on behalf of a health plan in managed Medicaid and/or Medicare Advantage and/or Individual & Family lines of business.
* Have experience in all aspects of health care actuarial practice including pricing, reserving, and forecasting.
* Have a current driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and proof of automobile insurance for travel on behalf of CHPW.
Essential functions and Roles and Responsibilities:
* Responsible for interpreting state and federal requirements related to product design, rate development, and premium stabilization programs.
* Completes actuarial modeling including development of lag triangles, completion factors, trends and reserve requirements.
* Manages federal actuarial filings.
* Manages state actuarial pricing submissions and review of proposed rating assumptions.
* Designs and builds complex data models.
* Performs quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and cost data.
* Responsible for reviewing work of outside actuarial consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal requirements.
* Manage projects from inception to completion.

* Knowledge of recent healthcare related legislation

Compensation and Benefits:

Works with and supports members with various chronic conditions in achieving an optimal state of health. The Health Coach will assist, promote and support self-management goals and interventions by providing support, education, and coaching to members with chronic conditions, and collaborating with the member, providers, and internal team members.

Responsibilities
Competently represents the Employer/Carrier before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board at administrative hearings, conferences, trials, and appeals on litigated and in pro per claims.
Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
Appears remotely at depositions, cross-examinations, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal-driven activities outside of the WCAB.
Analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conducts extensive legal research, and independently develops and presents defense strategies.
Prepares pleadings, petitions, motions, correspondence, and briefs in support of defense strategies.
Provides thorough and timely communication, information, legal advice, and other services to Claims, Underwriting, and employers on relevant legal and factual issues.
Complies with AmTrust's Litigation Management Guidelines with minimal supervision.
Assists in developing training materials for Claims, Underwriting, and employers relevant to the application of current laws, practices, and trends in CA workers' compensation.
Handles carve-out cases and is familiar with the practices and procedures of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (ADR).
Communicates with Workers' Compensation Judges, claims professionals, witnesses, opposing counsels, and clients in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
Keeps current with market trends and demands. Attends continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise.

Qualifications
Licensed by the California State Bar.
Strong technical knowledge and familiarity with the California Labor Code and Rules of Practice and Procedure, as well as current case law and their application.
Ability to handle a caseload of up to 95 cases from inception to settlement and/or appellate level.
1+ year experience relevant to the practice of Workers' Compensation.
Strong working knowledge of EAMS, Lexis Advance, Microsoft Office.
Trial and/or arbitration experience consistent with the years of experience above.
Appellate experience consistent with the years of experience above.
Technical ability to appear remotely at WCAB district offices and other legal venues in order to represent AmTrust's interests and those of its insureds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization in California Workers' Compensation Law.

The expected salary range for this role is $110,000-$165,000/year.

Provide drug information to clients by answering all drug related questions and give clinical therapeutic recommendations. Have working knowledge of (but not limited to) IV fluids, admixture, TPN, narcotic/cardiac drips, IV antibiotics, and chemotherapy.
Be knowledgeable of special age related medical conditions. Important considerations such as (but not limited to): pediatric, geriatric, pregnant/nursing, renal/hepatic impairment, and HIV patients.
