Responsible for preparing the patient for the treatment, assist the dentist in performing their treatment to the patient in restorative dentistry or oral surgery, prepare materials and equipment for treatment and have them ready for the dentist's use, take x-rays and assist the dentist in laboratory work. May perform other duties related to work
May perform the following procedures:
All duties that a dentalassistant is allowed to perform
Mouth-mirror inspections of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth
Apply and activate bleaching agents using a nonlaser light-curing device
Use of automated caries detection devices and materials to gather information for diagnosis by the dentist
Obtain intraoral images for computer-aided design (CAD), milled restorations
Pulp vitality testing and recording of findings
Place bases, liners, and bonding agents
Chemically prepare teeth for bonding
Place, adjust, and finish direct provisional restorations
Fabricate, adjust, cement, and remove indirect provisional restorations, including stainless steel crowns when used as a provisional restoration
Place post-extraction dressings after inspection of the surgical site by the supervising licensed dentist
Place periodontal dressings
Dry endodontically treated canals using absorbent paper points
Adjust dentures extra-orally
Remove excess cement from surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument
Polish coronal surfaces of the teeth
Place ligature ties and archwires
Remove orthodontic bands
*Remove excess cement with an ultrasonic scaler from supragingival surfaces of teeth undergoing orthodontic treatment (if he or she has completed a board- approved registereddentalassistant educational program in those duties, or if he or she has provided evidence, satisfactory to the board, of having completed a board-approved course)
*The application of pit and fissure sealants (if he or she has completed a board- approved registereddentalassistant educational program in those duties, or if he or she has provided evidence, satisfactory to the board, of having completed a board-approved course)
Requirements
REGISTEREDDENTALASSISTANT (RDA) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED certification
Certification as a RegisteredDentalAssistant required
Proof of completion of the following:
Course in Radiation Safety of at least 32 hours.
Course in Coronal Polishing of at least 12 hours.
2-hour course in the California Dental Practice Act
8-hour course in Infection Control
Certification in a Basic Life Support course through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the American Safety and Health Institute, the American Dental Association's Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CERP) program, or the Academy of General Dentistry's Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE).
Spanish speaking preferred, not required

Effective oral communication skills in Spanish preferred.
Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word.

Proficiency and/or ability to expand knowledge of department specific key performance indicators. This includes interrupting data and ability to generate, as well, share self-service reports. In addition, the ability use reports/data to drive decision making.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

The primary role of the DentalAssistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dentalassistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Dentalassistants prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dentalassistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dentalassistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner. A successful dentalassistant will execute active listening to objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others, keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.
Specialty DentalAssistants If dentalassistant is assigned within specialty areas including: Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics or Pediatric, they will primarily be supporting clinicians within that specialty and may be required to have additional training.
Responsibilities
* Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state's Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
* Actively participate in the PPE by striving to keep your patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual needs and concerns.
* Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to other team members as appropriate.
* Communicate with the front and back office teams to ensure the Orthodontists schedule runs smoothly and efficiently.
* Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
* Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory in accordance with the state applicable infection control guidelines.
* Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist- thereby enabling them to provide efficient, quality dental treatment.
* At the direction of the clinician, complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures of patients in an efficient and timely manner.
* Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and maintain adequate supply levels in each operatory, replenishing as needed to provide efficient patient care.
* Keep the patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.
* Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as directed by the clinician.
* Record patient charting and all the clinician's notes in the digital patient chart as directed by the clinician.
* Support patient care by presenting treatment record, consents and health history to clinician prior to patient treatment.
* Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer's guidelines.
* Work closely with Lead DentalAssistant to ensure adequate clinical supplies are on hand.
* Utilize technology by learning how to operate and give explanation/demonstration of how to operate to others.
* Participate in daily morning huddles, monthly team meetings and any other meetings as required.
* Models company culture, values, standards and best operational practices based on the "We Believes."
* Demonstrates stewardship of the PDS Brand making decisions consistent with the PDS Brand framework.
* Implements the Perfect Patient Experience process in efforts to gain Patients for Life.

Qualifications
* Equivalent to high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and specified training courses as mandated by state for certification, licensure, or registration.
* Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: As mandated by applicable state.
* Specialty DentalAssistants must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance. Driver's license must be verified by completing a background check and motor vehicle record check at the time of hire.
* Specialty DentalAssistants are required to timely travel to multiple offices per day, in some cases several times per day, and must have reliable means of transportation to travel to assigned offices.
* In lieu of a valid driver's license and automobile insurance, Specialty DentalAssistant must have reliable means of alternate transportation which would allow for required, timely travel to multiple offices per day, in some cases several times per day.
