NORTH CAROLINA -Pediatric Faculty Position. The Pediatric Teaching Program at Cone Health, a community teaching hospital in Greensboro, NC, affiliated with the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, seeks both a full-time and part-time hospitalist to join its faculty of 10 physicians.
The role is that of clinician-educator to residents and students in three clinical venues: a well-baby nursery, caring for term and late preterm babies with over 6000 deliveries per year, an 18-bed pediatric ward with over 2000 admissions each year, and resident acute care clinic. Call coverage is approximately once in 7 nights. Other responsibilities include didactic teaching, mentoring, and quality improvement projects. There are no delivery responsibilities. Our decades-long partnership with UNC includes a Primary Care Residency based in Greensboro, UNC Categorical residents, 3rd and 4th year UNC medical students, and Hospital Medicine Fellows.
The teaching service is supported by in-house neonatologists who staff a 45-bed NICU in a state-of-the-art Women's and Children's Hospital, pediatric intensive care physicians who staff a 4-bed PICU, pediatric subspecialists, and an ambulatory clinic that serves as the home site for the UNC Pediatric Primary Care Residency. Both the inpatient ward and newborn nursery are supported by nurse practitioners.
The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics or Med/Peds, possess outstanding clinical skills and teaching expertise, and have at least 2 years of experience at the attending level. Board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is not required. Applicants are eligible for a faculty appointment at the UNC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at the assistant or associate professor level. There are opportunities for clinical, QI, and administrative leadership roles.
About the area. The Greensboro urban area is the 3rd largest in North Carolina with a population of 300,000 people and a regional population of approximately 1 million. If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
Meets requirements of the Moses Cone Health System Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
Each Practitioner shall maintain in force professional liability insurance as determined by the Moses Cone Health System Medical Executive Committee and Board of Trustees; currently $1 million each incident and each occurrence, and $3 million aggregate. The Practitioner must provide proof of professional liability insurance coverage, with a current certificate of insurance or a current copy of the policy. The professional liability insurance coverage shall be with a company approved by the North Carolina Insurance Commission and otherwise satisfactory to the Board of Trustees.
