15. Maintains an active and unencumbered driver's license issued by the state of Virginia.
16. Provides a copy of current motor vehicle insurance at the time of hire and annually thereafter.
17. Supports and protects the individual rights of patients.
18. Performs appropriate documentation utilizing the electronic medical record.
19. Attends and participates in meetings as required or instructed by the Activities Director.
20. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Position Summary: The ActivityAssistant works in accordance with established policies and procedures, under instruction from the Director of Resident Services. This position implements a varied activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Atlantic Shores residents. This position reports to the Activities Supervisor.
Essential Duties: Follows the Resident Services departmental established policies, procedures, and organizational plan for Atlantic Shores activity program.
Keeps records and reports resident responses to the activity program.
Assists in the movement of residents to and from activity areas.
Leads discussion and special interest groups, games and other activities with patients such as creative crafts, bingo, gardening, parties, rhythm band, sing-along, decorating, drama activities and movies. Encourages and instructs individuals in recreation skills and activities.
Works special events for residents, including those on holidays, evenings, and weekends. Must be flexible in scheduling availability to include being assigned to evenings, holidays, and weekend hours.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; or six months to one-year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to act in a resident's best interest and make responsible choices and decisions.
Ability to lead activities and motivate residents and fellow team members for their involvement in the planned social events and activities.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely manner.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to facilitate small group presentations.
Organization and time-management skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Windows, Outlook, and Excel) and the ability to learn new applications.

How you'll contribute
The Activity Therapist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based activity services to patients hospitalized for treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders. The Activity Therapist plans, organizes and directs medically approved activity programs including such activities as holidays and special events, social activities, relaxation techniques, music-based interventions, leisure educational games, and expressive arts to assist patients to develop interpersonal relationships, increase motivation, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities. Activity Therapist regulates content of the programs in accordance with patients' capabilities, needs, interests, and treatment plan.
Responsibilities:
* Applies appropriate theory and standards for decision and actions regarding therapeutic practices.
* Assesses patient needs utilizing cultural, religious, and physical disabilities, in the determination of capabilities in groups and with specific activities.
* Documents the patient's response to interventions pertinent to patient treatment on daily/weekly progress status, as appropriate.
* Completes all assessments within the time frame allotted and contributes to assessment workload balance between therapists.
* Formulates the initial and subsequent treatment programs in accordance with the attending physician's/licensed practitioner's treatment orders.
* Develops a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives, and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs.
* Provides therapy treatment procedures according to the treatments plan, communicate, and work with the patient to achieve the greatest benefit and resolution.
* Maintains constant communication with the treatment team, therapist, and physician/licensed practitioner when patient is not responding the treatments.
* Contributes to the effective functioning of the patient's program. Understands the age differences and the corresponding developmental needs.

* Reassesses and updates treatment plan goals when there are significant changes in the patient's condition in compliance with facility policy or after patient's stay has exceeded 7 days.
* Contributes to treatment planning with feedback to clinical and program staff to achieve therapeutic interventions.
* Provides direction to clinical and unit staff regarding activity related groups.
* Provides input into patient's AT goals to the treatment teams and records any treatment updates on the treatment update form in treatment team when applicable.
Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should possess the following qualifications and skills:
* Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute in Recreational Therapy (CTRS), Music Therapy (MT-BC), Art Therapy (ATR, ATR-BC, ATR-P LPAT), or similar field required.
* Experience: Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
* License: Current unencumbered certification/license/registration required per state of practice guidelines.
* Additional Requirements: CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days. May be required to work flexible hours, holidays, and overtime.
