I. POSITION SUMMARY
Performs shrinkage control sampling and testing. And process pellets from powder for shrinkage measurements. These are integral support functions in the efficient manufacturing of ceramic products that meet the required specifications & quality standards. Assembles, repairs and controls cradles that are used in the extrusion process.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
Shrinkage Control:
* Obtain one subgroup (3 pieces) of green Honey Ceram samples from each available extruder line, and one subgroup of STs for each kiln cycle.
* Marking and measuring them for each kiln cycle daily.
* Shrinkage setting shall be reviewed after the subgroup has run for each of the kiln cycle's shrinkage results.
* Evaluate Results. After the fire body subgroup has been measured and the results are in the Infinity charts, review the results to ensure that it meets the criteria.
* Additional Measurements on Contour Machine are needed when the parts are not met. Measure the subgroup on Material Control's Contour machine and the Technical Leader and/or Supervisor will compare the results against the customer's specification.
* If the samples meet customer's specification, then send the samples to Material Control for additional testing. Evaluation is complete.
* If the samples fail to meet the customer's specification, then hold the samples for further analysis.
* Obtain incoming honey cream from Japan; measure on optibel.
* Process pellets from powder for shrinkage measurements on the Contour Machine.
* Recognize defects in production; Hensy-color, Tatagire-Cracks, Tamen-Face cracks.
Cradle Control:
A. Checks cradles by visually inspecting and touching for damages such as burrs, bubbles, frayed
corners, loose bumpers, etc.
B. Inspects cradles using micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices.
C. Operates HAAS CNC Mill, hot cutting knife, and hot wire cutting machine.
D. Checks inventories to ensure that sufficient supplies are available for upcoming product runs; notifies supervisor if materials need to be ordered.
E. Assembles and repairs cradles, bumpers and screws.
F. Enter data into company's information systems: Infinity, spreadsheets, etc.
G. Uses caution when using cutting instruments; uses proper lifting techniques.
H. Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed.
I. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials.

What you'll do:
Prepare specifications and other engineering documents to procure, install, and commission a wide variety of hydro-electric equipment and systems.
Plan and direct hydro-electric equipment refurbishment projects from disassembly to return to service.
Troubleshoot equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
Represent the company at shop inspections and factory acceptance tests related to hydro-electric systems to ensure equipment in shop meets specifications and Industry codes.
Direct contractors and hydro project staff at facilities to accomplish equipment repair and upgrades; ensuring electrical documents are updated to reflect field changes.
Provide operations & maintenance with industry best practices that drive equipment operational reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
Manage project implementation and complete projects on time and on-budget.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, controls) to support project integration.
Utilize equipment predictive data analysis to enhance equipment performance and recommend outage schedules for performing preventative maintenance.
Develop electrical schematics and drawings to guide installation and maintenance of hydro-electric equipment and systems.
What skills and experience you'll need:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a minimum of four years' work experience in a related field.
Travel as required for project supervision and execution (~30%).
Strong understanding of power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution.
The ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other disciplines.
Experience with industrial electrical systems and maintenance practices.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Observation: Engineering technicians must be able to observe construction work for compliance with applicable project drawings and specifications, and for general accordance with International Building Code requirements.
Testing: Engineering technicians must be able to perform field and laboratory testing of soil, stone, concrete, grout, masonry, and other construction materials in accordance with ASTM standards. Applicable ASTM standards include but are not limited to the following: D-698, D-1557, D-1556, D-2937, D-2216, D-6938, C-31, C-143, C-173, C-231, and ASTM STP 399.
Documentation: Engineering technicians document field observations and test results by writing legibly in English with proper grammar. Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) is an integral part of all testing and reporting.
Safety: Engineering Technicians must wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE), attend safety training sessions, and follow the requirements within the Geo-Hydro Safety and Health Manual.
Physical Requirements Lifting:
Must be able to lift, load and unload soil, sand, asphalt, CMU, and concrete samples weighing up to 100 pounds.
Concrete Sampling and Testing: Must be able to maneuver a 6-cubic foot wheelbarrow loaded with 150-200 pounds of fresh concrete for up to 50 yards over uneven ground.
Unit weight testing requires lifting a 50-pound container of concrete. Six-inch compressive strength test cylinders weigh 30 pounds each.
Volumetric air content testing requires repeated swinging of the 30-pound concrete-filled test device from knee-level to head-level.
Soil Density Testing: The technician must be able to repeatedly drop a 25-pound drop slide hammer to drive sampling tubes into the ground and then manually excavate the sampling tubes back out of the ground with mattock and shovel.
Must be able to load and unload a 90-pound case containing a nuclear density gauge and carry the 50-pound nuclear density gauge by hand for up to 50 yards over uneven ground.
Hand Auger and Penetrometer: Must be able to manually hand auger down to 10 feet into soil to obtain samples and perform portable dynamic cone penetrometer testing. The hand auger may require up to 50 pounds of pull to remove it from wet soil conditions. The total weight of the dynamic cone penetrometer ranges from 20 to 40 pounds. Operation of the penetrometer requires repeated raising and dropping of the 15 pound slide weight.
