Coppell City Hall company history timeline

1832

In 1832, the farming community of "Grapevine Springs" was organized in the vicinity of the present-day Grapevine Springs Park.

1853

Established in 1853, by the James Parrish family, Bethel Cemetery is located at Christi Lane and Moore Road.

1887

By 1887, the community became known as "Gibbs" in honor of former Texas Senator and Lieutenant Governor Barnett Gibbs.

1889

The Cotton Belt Railroad (part of the St Louis and Southwestern Texas Railroad) established the "Gibbs Station" in the community in 1889, providing needed transportation for the area's many farms.

1890

The community changed its name again in 1890 - this time to "Coppell," probably after George Coppell, who was a prominent New York businessman closely associated with many railroads.

1892

So influential was the railroad in those days that the name of the train stop became the name of the town, and in 1892, Gibbs officially changed the name of its post office and town to Coppell.

1908

In 1908, a second school building was built alongside the original, just west of old downtown Coppell.

1909

In 1909, a newspaper, The Coppell Informer, served Coppell.

1911

In 1911, the community and Dallas County built a public well and watering trough in the center of town.

1955

In the year 1955, the community was seen incorporated via a ballot measure, which was seen getting passed with a vote of 41 to 1.

1974

At the time it opened in 1974, Dallas-Fort Worth was the world's largest airport sitting on approximately 18,000 acres.

1999

The first Arts Center was a redeveloped fire house constructed in 1999

2000

By the end of 2000, around a large chunk of residential areas was zoned in the city, which was developed and the population was seen growing over 35,000.

2010

In the year 2010, Samsung had opened up with a new cell phone manufacturing and distribution facility, which is located at this very place of Coppell.

2017

In January 2017, the Coppell City Council approved an architectural services agreement with Corgan for the proposed Coppell Arts Center.
