SUMMARY
Performs routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine chemical or physical characteristics designated by clients.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
* Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
* Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
* Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
* Assist in calibrating laboratory instruments for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
* Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
* Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual #5, Safety Manual #7, and the Core Laboratories Safety and Environmental Manual, and company policies.
* Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations.
* Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
* Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets up and operates laboratory instruments to perform standardized testing in accordance with industry and internal standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conducts sampling in most weather conditions. Receives samples from outside organizations. Logs samples upon arrival to the lab and conditions them for testing.
Conducts required certification analysis for all products per ASTM, EPA, and GPA guidelines. Documents all test results.
Prepares and issues certificate of analysis (CoA) in accordance with established standards.
Conducts maintenance on laboratory testing and sampling equipment
Cleans and sterilizes laboratory testing and sampling equipment.
Conducts instrument validation to ensure accuracy, precision, and reliability.
Maintains inventory of chromatographic gases, standards, and consumables.
Complies with laboratory's safety plan (LSP) and MPLX quality

Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician II will be responsible for conducting intermediate to advanced laboratory testing and analyses on various samples, including crude and refined petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical products. This role involves ensuring that all samples conform to customer and industry specifications and supporting the development and implementation of laboratory procedures. The position requires strong attention to detail, an ability to work independently, and proficiency in a range of laboratory testing procedures and instrumentation.

Prepare samples and reagents for testing and ensure they are properly labeled, stored, and tracked.
Enter test data into the company's internal software system and ensure all information is accurately recorded and updated.
Assist in the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and protocols, particularly when handling hazardous chemicals and materials.
Assist in preparing for internal or external audits and inspections.
Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of laboratory areas, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment.
Be available during non-working hours, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the Laboratory Manager and/or Operations Department.

Minimum Requirements
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience or a related role within the oil and gas industry.
Strong knowledge of petroleum products, chemical analysis, and laboratory testing procedures.
Knowledge of laboratory testing standards such as ASTM, API, and ISO.
Must have good vision to read instruments and interpret test results accurately.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to learn new software systems and applications specific to the company's internal processes.
Strong attention to detail and precision in testing and documentation.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Fitness for Duty - Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion (e.g., materials, chemicals, or equipment).
